Title: Richard Hammond's Big
Post by: mb on 16 January 2020, 03:06
Anybody watch it on Discovery last night?

He was at VW's Wolfsburg plant 'helping' on the production line and generally looking around. Saw some GTi's and a few glimpses of the Mk8.

Worth a watch if you missed it.

Yes. I was just as impressed that they had a Currywurst sausage factory on site at Wolfsburg, churning out 6.2 million large sausages for the workforce's mealtimes as I was for the actual running of car production.

The scale of everything was enormous and seemed even bigger due to Hamster presenting!

The Currywurst is excellent and amusingly, has a VW parts catalogue number. I have some in my freezer if you want a picture. I bought them for my wife when she got the TCR as she asked me if the dealer had made any effort with 'extras' and I said 'not a sausage'. Hence the joke. They're really good too.

Thanks mb- just seen this on catch up- an interesting watch.
Only the Germans could manage such a complex process on such a scale. How do they do it!

A very harsh review. The reviewer- whoever he is- also appears to be a bit dim. When the sausage man answered " since 1973" to Hammnond's question " how long have you been making sausages", he meant the Wolfsburg factory, not him personally ( the man looks to be in his 40s!)
I still can't quite get over how many cars this place produces- 3600 per day. Truly astonishing.

You can buy currywurst sauces and mixes from most supermarkets if your local VW dealer is a little reticent.
Places like Aldi and Lidl might stock authentic stuff.

Good grief.  A review written by a dimwit trying to aggrandise himself, having failed at life and ended up churning out reviews of TV programmes for the jaundiced readers of the Grauniad.  What a waste of column inches and bandwidth.

I think the review was as bad as the show. I mean, it's The Guardian so what do you expect? Be grateful it wasn't written by George Monbiot although I'm amused at the idea of him having to endure Hammond for an hour to provide basis for a review.

Who is the audience for this show though? It seems to be written for 6 year olds and I ended up fast playing most of it - the whole Van de Graaff generator demonstration with the paint. FFS. It was factually wrong in several places.

They also do a package with the ketchup which I'm really rather fond of as well.
