I’m in the mood for polls tonight so here’s another! A topic of conversation that keeps doing the rounds so what’s the general consensus?
-
When I first read the question my initial thoughts were 'burn it' so guess where my vote went
-
Doesn't seem to be much love for the soundaktor!
-
I unplugged mine for a few days and missed it.

Not a fan of it, much prefer the natural sound of the car!
-
What is the noticeable effect if you disconnect it?
-
Why bother disconnecting it, just turn it off with vcds or OBD11.

This.. But ready to recode if I sell it. However I must add that after 30k the exhaust note has vastly improved and the farts make my wife laugh. The car,not mine.
-
Much easier to turn it back on rather than remove trims under the bonnet and reconnect.
-
If you disable it with coding, does the sound level menu still show?
-
Yes if you mean Sport, Normal, Comfort or Eco options under engine sound.
-
Yes - just wondered as drove a 7.5 the other day that made no difference which sound setting was selected. So could be disabled or unplugged.
-
A question for those in the know........
When it's set to comfort mode, in the car settings menu, is it still active, or does comfort mode effectively switch it to 0 % ?
-
"Would like to disable but don’t have the kit".......Unless your hands have dropped off you have the "Kit" to disable it within 5 minutes.

Personally, I felt Comfort only reduced the volume by about 20%. Eco probably by about 40% but even then it still left an unpleasant diesel-esque growl low down the rev range in town which is just irritating and not even a particularly nice sound. In sport mode and caining it on the motorway is a different matter. But on balance, I prefer it off.

Only recently got a GTi and it sounds quite weird and unnatural. I tried reversing while in sport mode and it sounded like I was revving the car lots. Still; not sure if it was me or the car. Haven't had an issue since switching out of sport mode
Edit// So is the noise on constantly? I thought it was only on with sports mode?. I don't know how much of an effect all the mode options have yet tbh

If you turn it off does it sound like a 'normal' engine then?
-
Absolute tat, it’s like something a chav would go and buy from halfrauds on a Saturday!!! OBDeleven sorted mine out quick time
-
I turned off with the Carista App, best thing I've done to the car so far.

It sounds like a 2.0 TSI turbo with a couple of big exhausts bolted on. Not sure why they thought it necessary to pump the fake sound in to be honest.
-
I was fortunate that it was already coded out on mine but another one I test drove it was active and hated it.
-
I turned my engine noise to eco, not sure how much better it'd be if I removed it completely but I'm happy with it for now, hear the exhaust better and sounds far more natural.
-
I coded mine out and then sold the car - but forgot to switch it back on again!

I find my stock GTi very quiet, would turning it off make it even quieter?
-
You probably bought MarkV’s GTI

That was my first job when I got the car home, pull the scuttle trim up and squeeze my hand in and disconnect it. It's a tight fit though, my hand was sore for days afterwards....... :nerd:
