I've gone from a Mk 7.5 GTD to an A6 and back to MK7 Golf GTD. It's a company car so I chose it blind from the pool.
It's been delivered today and I've noticed that the wheels aren't diamond cut. More of a gun metal grey finish than shiney silver with black insides.
Does anyone know if this was a factory option? It's a 16 plate company car with 15k miles on it, so I can't imagine they've been refurbed but I'm slightly disappointed as I think they diamond cut looks a lot better.

If they are Nogaro's like you say, they are machined diamond cut wheels with lacquered finish. Do you have a picture?

A few people I know had their Nogaro's powder coated in an anthracite grey after the dreaded white worm broke though the lacquer.
TBH, I'd be quite happy if my 19" Brecia's came two tone powder coated black and silver rather than diamond cut.
1. Don't have to worry about the white worm (which will happen sooner or later with diamond cut no matter how careful you are)
2. Easy to repair if you do damage them as diamond cut need to be repaired on a lathe and can only be done a couple of times or so before the metal becomes too thin. With powder coated you can have kerbing marks repaired as many times asa you want.
3. Think they look cooler and more unique than the standard finish.
YMMV

They're a bit dirty having done a few hundred miles today. Dont get me wrong, they're not bad looking, just not what I was expecting.

As others have said, the factory finish on Nogaro alloys is diamond cut.

They could easily have suffered kerb damage in 15,000 miles or less, which might’ve been the reason for them having been refurbished.
White worm corrosion in under 3 years on a low mileage car isn’t unknown either; clear lacquer applied directly to a diamond cut surface isn’t a particularly durable finish - especially if the wheels are kept on the car throughout the winter months. Two of the diamond cut alloys on my low mileage mk6 GTD succumbed to white worm corrosion in around 2.5 years, and my wheels were always kept well protected from the elements with multi layers of wheel sealant, and any damage from stone chips repaired immediately with a clear lacquer touch up paint pen to stop the ingress or water under the lacquer coat.
Given the choice between a diamond cut and a painted / powder coated finish, I’d always choose painted / powder coated every time, and I really like yours.

Cheers for the input! I'll flag it up to the company at least, so they know it's not me that's been meddling.
Glad to be back in a hatch again, although I do miss my MK7.5 3door

Ran a GTD for 3 years (great car, all car ever need if honest) and they have definitely been refurbished as mine were nogaro and diamond cut

Not quite sure about that one or else you'd be on your 3rd GTD now !

Haha, well i did say need and thats probably a true statement, great day to day drive with half decent performance, the mid range pull in particular keeps you entertained - but will bend to your challenge and rephrases to all the car you need but not the one you will want :)

Haha well corrected! I had an estate one last year for a day when mine was in for service and seems good. Just think unless you are doing loads and loads of miles the GTI offers so much more. But agree, a great day to day car.
