Title: Coolant warning, when cold, levels fine, gauge below 90 slightly
Post by: darcygr on 27 October 2019, 09:26
Morning all, just recently a new owner of a 2014 PP Gti.

I bought it in northern ireland and live in Ireland myself, only 33k miles and everything was going fine for a week....

So I come out the other morning and it was the first cold morning since i bought the car... Red coolant light came on, I stopped the car instantly and then checked the coolant levels,  the coolant in the reservoir was ABOVE the lines, so levels are fine.

When I drove up towards my local halfords in case i needed to top up, when i got restarted the engine when i arrived at halfords about 2 miles away, the light was gone...

Now my temperature gauge is ever so SLIGHTLY below 90 when it comes to temperature.

What doesnt help is the guy had the thermostat and Water pump done 6 months ago by an indie up north called walsh motors belfast.... It cost 456 pounds including VAT... so I'm just wondering would they have used spurious parts, and this has gone faulty again or if it could be anything else causing the gauge to read slightly below 90, and check coolant light to come on when the coolant levels are fine?

Thanks in advance.

Graham

Sensor fault - the coolant level sensor - I doubt if that was swapped out with the coolant pump change.

Get the fault codes read and see what they say?
