Hi guys , I’m thinking about selling my Clubsport Ed40 , car is a 66 plate with 58k miles on it , full dealer service history , Sachs performance organic clutch and revo stage 1 , its a 3 door manual in Carbon Grey in lovely condition with Belvedere wheels. Struggling to get work out what I should ask for it..... any help would be great , thanks

I'd say its worth roughly a straight swap for mine
I'd say around 22k, that's the cheapest one available at the minute
-
Objectively, it is a good colour with full service history, any other details on spec, extended warranty, Bucket seats, DCC?
Obviously mileage will impact the value and I feel a standard car is easier to sell than a mapped car. A Revo map may be a positive for some buyers, you only need one buyer after all!
Without full details on spec and what may be needed soon, such as tyres etc.. It's hard to be specific on value.
On what we know I would put the car up at £21k and hope for >£20k with a private sale, the mileage is the major determinant.
I think the above "guesstimate" may be slightly optimistic due to the rarity of the car, especially at this price point. We don't have many £20k CS available as yet!?
One thing you can be sure of is the trade bid will be at least a couple £k below that.
(I have a 7.3k mile CS and follow the market on these!)

Assume you are meaning what value you should ask for a private sale. It's fairly high miles for a CS plus a lot of people like standard cars although Stage 1 it's not a huge thing. Just price it accordingly. Probably sub £20k as there's a black manual 5dr with 34k on for £20999 at a Toyota dealer.

ED40 desirability is so colour & spec dependant, it’s unreal, preference in the trade is also for DSG. You have the grail colour for these though, and if it has buckets and DCC then you have gold dust (albeit high Milage) and will be able to ask a few K over ‘book’ and most dealers will snap your arm off for it. If it’s a box standard car which it sounds it might be then it gets pretty much priced at ‘book’. With no options and that mileage book is currently showing c£17k p/x, so anywhere from that to £20k is probably reasonable.
Stick it on Tootle and see what bids you get back.

Tootle went into administration in August.

Might be worth the OP trying alternative car bidding / buying sites such as Motorway though.

In my experience, these cars trade over book privately.
Actually selling to a dealer should be after you have exhausted private sale options.
Again, specification is hugely important on these, I wasn't even looking to buy a CS, I was only tempted by to the spec of my own car!
Also location makes a difference, as wonderful as the places are, North Wales, Highlands or Cornwall can make it harder for some private buyers to view?

Unlike an R which is a known quantity and always in demand I think a Clubsport has a very limited market.
If it has the bucket seats it’ll fetch a good price but then again they cost quite a lot more new! It’s all relative.
I Very briefly looked at putting mine in against a TCR back in the summer having been less than impressed with the mk8 looks (understatement), at the time it had 6000 miles on a 17 plate, no extras except black roof. Trade price was £23k.
I was offered £22k as p/x from a local dealer, £21.5k from a well known GTI specialist (as a straight sale) and £21k from a forum sponsor in a part exchange deal (taking into account the likely several month lead time).
In years to come they’ll probably be sought after by enthusiasts but right now they won’t command strong prices with new/nearly new TCRs available from stock and a mk8 being released any time soon.

Thanks for the feedback guys , my car is pretty much standard with regards to options no buckets or dcc, I’m not going to do much miles with it so should even itself out at some point , i got a brand new set of Clubsport mats for it so that’s gotta up the value...... I think I’ll get her all cleaned up and pitch it around the £21k and see if I can get somewhere close to that for it , like some one mentioned the mods wont be to everyone’s taste but I think the stage 1 is what the car needed from the factory

Sounds like it could be a good time to buy a CS, if anyone is thinking of selling give me a shout, must have bucket seats though.

You should have bought the low mileage red one in the classifieds on here a couple of months ago, that had bucket seats. :)

That didn't hang around for long!
Advert is no longer there...

After going out for a play today I have come to thee conclusion that the Clubsport will stay for a good while yet , compared to any other golf available at the moment the manual box and 3 door along with the styling it can’t be beaten ! That and the fact that figures are holding up compared to the drop in prices of used R’s and the slightly ugly styling on the TCR this car is a winner.

Yeah keep it, the TCR ain’t as pretty and costs too much, R’s are two a penny, the mk8 is b*****d ugly and there’s going to be a high demand for the Clubsport in the right spec in years to come.
