Hi
I had a golf Mk 5 (I think) several years ago, and was impressed with the sun visor. When rotated to the side, it could then also be slid 'telescopically' further back on its rotation bar, so it went further back to block the sun from the side.
My Mk 7 sun visor is very poor. I have a 3 door car, so no useful B pillar, and sit well back. The sun visor when rotated to be at the side window leaves a huge gap right by my eyes, so low sun from the side dazzles. It can't be pulled back to close the gap. And this time of the year there is a lot of low sun from the side.
a) Does anyone know if a visor off an earlier version of the car, which had the 'slide out' facility could be retrofitted? It would need the correct colour, fixing and length for the clasp.
b) does anyone know of an attachable thing which can fold out to extend the visor length when at the side?
Many thanks for any ideas.

How about a pair of sunglasses?

Do people under 80 actually do that?

Can only remember ever doing this about once or twice in 24 years of driving! And no, I didn't pass my test when I was 56!

Well I apologise for being so boring as to rotate the sun visor to the side, but I have a N -S commute and catch the low sun the whole journey early in the morning and late on returning home. I presume that's why it unclips and rotates!
Sunglasses tend to work best when the sun is at the front, rather than the side, too I find...

I understand the issue here, and it bugs me too. 2 saturdays every month I drive 180 miles up north from South London. The trip involves me driving around a section of the m25 then up the M40 and M6 etc.
The sun is rising when I leave and for the vast majority of the 3hrs drive the sun is shining low and directly through the driver’s side. I need the visor to stretch all the way across the drivers door window (like my old cars did) but it doesn’t, it’s not long enough and leaves a gap which doesn’t cover my face when I’m sat back.
I have taken to wrapping/wedging a piece of card over the visor. It’s a very poor design.

Get some wrap around Oakleys

Or do what I do...wear my baseball cap sideways.

Sounds like a simple fix - https://www.amazon.co.uk/WANPOOL-Sunshade-Anti-glare-Extender-Passenger/dp/B07JMY812D/ref=sr_1_5?crid=CPEF7WOKZIRI&keywords=sun+visor+extenders+for+cars&qid=1568289845&s=gateway&sprefix=sun+visor+ex%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-5

I find a pair of Ray Bans works for me, plus I can keep them on when I get out the car and look super fly... in my head anyway

but this relates to sun from the side, and poor coverage of the sun visor when over the driver's window. Sunglasses help for frontal sun, but not that from the side.

They do work if you wear wraparounds like Oakleys...

Although it won't give you complete coverage, would a set of tinted wind deflectors help?
Or are you as short as I am and they'd still be too high lol.

Not if you wear glasses though.
In response to @dubber36 in reply #2, I’ve quite a few years to go before I reach 80, but I often swivel the sun visor to the side window on one of my regular routes to block out the sun when it’s at that annoying height, as being a glasses wearer, wraparound sunglasses aren’t an option for me. I also liked the mini sun visor that VW fitted behind the rear view mirror in the mk4 Golf, to help block the sun shining into your eyes through the gap between the two sun visors.
I can remember in the 1970’s / early 1980’s that the Fiat 132 had two additional sunvisors; one above each of the front doors for the driver and front seat passenger. It meant the front occupants of the car had the benefit of two sun visors each; one forward facing and one side facing. I thought it was a great idea, but presumably it didn’t catch on, otherwise it would still be a feature on some modern day cars.
