Hi all
There doesn't seem to be any useful info in the handbook, online or on here regarding this page in the CAR menu. I know we don't have a GTi to maximise economy and minimise emissions! However does anyone have any info on this screen? In particular the central ticking clock with blue bars of various length seems hard to interpret.
Thanks, Martin

The blue bars around the ticking clock dial are a visual indication of how economy-minded you are driving.
If the bars are at the maximum length, you’re in what the car considers to be the most appropriate gear to achieve good mpg and a high ‘think blue’ score. Shorter bars are an indication you’ve not changed up a gear when the car thinks you should have. If you hold on to the lower gears for longer than the car thinks you should, you’ll notice the bars during that period of driving will be shorter than the maximum length. If you’re cruising in top gear at a steady speed for a prolonged period, you should see all the bars at maximum length.
IMO the ‘think blue’ trainer is a bit of a gimmick. I had the screen displayed a couple of times when I first got my car but the novelty soon wore off.

I've never really fathomed it out. It's all a bit daft as I can get 97/100 score and still do 20 mpg on my commute.
-
And I can get 48 mpg on my commute and think blue gives me 70/100!

You should be able to get to 60mpg then if you can get 98/100!
This was actually mine on my drive into work this morning...

What distance was your drive into work and what were the traffic conditions like?

Short and bad! About 3-4 miles of crappy city driving.

That would explain the low mpg, which is at its worst during engine warm up period.
It’s possible to have a combination low mpg and high Think Blue score during the warm up period if you or your DSG transmission is selecting the most appropriate gear - the long bars in the middle dial on the Think Blue screen suggest this was the case.
Think Blue = a gimmick IMO and of little practical use; more for short term entertainment value to keep car occupants amused, but they’ll soon get bored of watching it .

Agreed, better for them to try and watch the G meter on a good country road!

The Think Blue score is totally bogus - here's why.....
I'm driving along doing 75-80mph, 7th gear, in D, and it's giving me a score of 70ish.
I then put the gearbox into S. I'm STILL doing the same speed, and up at those speeds, the gearbox doesn't change down in S, so I'm STILL in 7th gear....
and my TB score drops to about 20.
So nothing has changed in terms of driving characteristics, or air con, or ANYTHING other than a D on the display has changed to an S. And it's dropped that much. I could flick between the two so the circle was filled with alternating Full and empty sections, with the right timing!
Oh, and when I was in S, 1800 revs in 7th gear (same as in D, and obviously, I have nowhere to go gear wise) - It's telling me that the revs are too high!
Load of codswallop.

There is a marked difference in consumption in 70mph vs 75mph and if you go the other way down to 65mph you'll see even better figures.
Its called drag and its roughly twice the amount at 80mph vs 60mph.
ThinkBlue is all about optimising your gear and throttle, it can't help with drag.

I'm not sure if you're replying to me, but if you are, I think you've missed the point of my post. There's no increase in drag by putting the gearbox in Sport, but keeping the gear, speed and revs the same

Maybe S mode alters the throttle positon so the Think Blue thing thinks you are pressing the throttle more than in when in D. That's the reason I can think as like you say, switching between D and S on the move makes no difference to revs at the same speed in each gear. It does increase the revs though when stationary.

Maybe -although I was on ACC at the time!
It's all a load of made up, wishy washy numbers and not worth looking at
