Title: ACC?
Post by: king monkey on 07 August 2019, 16:32
Hi guys,

Came out of a Vw dealers today as I was having a sneaky look at a TCR and the ACC came on, slamming to to a sudden stop. Thought I’d hit something as there was a slight slope leading out of the dealers. Very very slight though. Any ideas why this might happen and was it ACC related?

Front assist (not ACC!) must have thought you'd crash into something.

Might have been the front assist/emergency maneuver braking/ whatever it is called. It's very alarming when it happens. Can be turned off, but think you have to do it each time you're going slowly enough to park?

Sorry, that’s what I meant! Oops. Thought I had tbh.

I was using ACC the a few months ago and the car didn’t slow when approaching traffic. Never had this in my Pp gti so came as a bit of a surprise to say the least.

It’s the slope. Sensors will have detected the ground.
Same happened to me yesterday reversing onto a steep driveway.
Gives you quite a shock- I thought i’d hit something!
You can turn off manoeuvre braking via the parking menu, and front assist through the driver assistance menus.

Thanks for the replies. I checked and double checked as I really thought I’d hit something. Think I’m going to look at turning this off.

They didn’t have the tcr in either. 😂

A very very slight slope? That does seem unusual. Perhaps you accelerated quickly??

Maneuver braking... it comes on if its in park mode... did you reverse out of the parking space by any chance?

Park mode doesn't come off until either you press the button or exceed something like 15mph.

Up until then, if the ultrasonic parking sensor spot something and it thinks you're gonna hit it.... crunch on come the brakes.

It can and does spot the road surface when you come down steep slopes... like my friend's driveway...

You can disable braking in the menus if you want... I'd recommend that you don't.

When the parking sensor display is up, there'll be two buttons. One turns off the audible warning, the other toggles off the manoeuvre braking (for that park only)

Also, I may be mistaken, but I think if you disable it in the menus, it is only until you turn the car off? Maybe I'm wrong

Nope, permanent.

I was pulling out of the dealers forward. Was definitely under 15 mph as I was looking at a mk2 oak green gti that must have been in for servicing. I git out and had a good look around, nothing but the road surface. Felt under the splitter and no damage at all.

It feels like you have scrapped the front/back end when it kicks in. Been there, done that!

Using the ultrasonic sensors it can be fooled by all sorts of things too and if you are genuinely heading for a collision it sometimes is not fast enough to react either!

I might be lucky, but I’ve never had this operate when it couldn’t be excused for thinking a collision was a possibility. Whatever, I wouldn’t consider turning it off. Anything that could save injury or damage in a moment of distraction is invaluable. Set up for city traffic queues, where it is probably most reliable.

Park assist braking is different to front assist... which is different to ACC...
