Title: Thoughts on gun metal Brescia alloys ?
Post by: Rob_benton on 03 August 2019, 19:51
Hi

I’m looking at a set of Brescia wheel and see Cm Wheels do them in gun metal instead of black.

Being dark grey they might hide swirl marks that black show up.
They would be going on my black mk7.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Down to personal taste really. If you like them, get them. You certainly can't moan about the price.

My Seville's have black inserts in them though, and I can't say i've ever noticed any swirl marks. As long as you rinse them properly after washing they should be fine.

Just to note though, those Brescia's are 8J whereas the genuine VW Brescia's are 7.5J. So half an inch wider. Unless you buy new tyres your existing ones will be slightly more stretched than they would be over a narrower wheel.

Thanks for the reply.
I’d need bigger tyres anyway and they’ve suggested 235’s.

The dark grey look good.
Being a bit wider they’d fill the arches out better too. 225/35/19 tyres would still fit fine, they’re only fractionally narrower than 235’s.
The grey will show less fine scratches and hide the brake dust a tiny bit better.
Go for it!

Are these wheels any good? Same price for a new set as a full set refurb of my Austins.

I think they look great. What’s the quality like of their alloys compared to original?

Thanks for this. Been thinking about dipping mine this colour for a while, now I can actually see what they might look like!

They look great, definitely would be better than a brake dust point of view as well.

Really like these Reifnitz style ones in 18's as well.

I’m guessing 18’ to 18’ would be a straight swap? What about centre caps?

The CM Wheels reps don’t take the standard caps, most owners have to source them from eBay.

They don't! Why would they do that?

It's a common problem unfortunately! A few of us have bought Polo centre caps as they are slighlty smaller to fit the aftermarket alloys.
