Hey all, first post on here and unfortunatly its not a good one.
i have a 1988 mk2 golf 1.3,it overheated on tuesday, been asking a few people, all signs pointed to a stuck thermostat. Changed the thermostat last night and its still overheating like it did on tuesday. top radiator pipe is boiling hot and bottom hose is cold which would mean the new thermostat is sticking aswell.
so any ideas?

did you bleed the system after changeing the thermostat ?
as golf's like to create air locks and over heat

Just Bled the system, seems to be better, the bottom hose is hot now.the gauge is still running to hot for my liking(inbetween the middle and the 3/4 dot) and when i got back from testing it,it had all overheated and a lost a load of water out of the expansion tank!
Any ideas whats wrong with it?

is the fan coming on?? it will run even if the cars of if the engines over heating.

Make sure you got the right 50/50 mix of antifreeze, then run the car from cold with the cap off. Keep squeezing all the hoses you can lay your hands on and every now & again rev it to 2k. That should make sure there are no leaks. Also replace the header tank cap with a blue one, as they are a better design.

Went top see my mechanic last night and it was the cap that had been loosing the water, the spring in the cap had broken which was letting all the water out. Got the new cap and its all running as she should, thanks for the help guys.
