Hi
My GTi is 3 years old in August and has 17,000 miles on it. Do VW offer a 2 year extended warranty or is it 1 year only?
Has any one taken one out or do you prefer a 3rd party or just pay as you go.
It's more an insurance against anything catastrophic that I want.

I think the idea is that you buy the extended warranty one year at a time. So if you're a serial claimant in the first year, they will up your premium in the following year.
The VW extended warranty you buy upon expiry of the factory warranty is different to the extended warranty you used to be able to buy when new, which was simply an extension of the factory warranty. There are lots of exclusions, such as exclusions for some consequential damage.
Lots of aftermarket warranties are the same though.

Mine's not due yet but was thinking about this the other day.
The rear brake disc's appear to be of a cr*p standard and I was going to upgrade to Brembo's or similar.
If I took out VW extended warranty would these invalidate it as not genuine VW parts?

Don't think a warranty is going to cover your brake discs...
Best bet is to drop into the dealer and see what they can offer you.

I have an extended VW warranty on my 61 plate Phaeton with 115k and it is still paying out. I have a £100 excess. I got a new rear caliper earlier this year and just had dpf pressure sensor replaced. As someone mentioned above I don’t think the level of cover is the same for newer policies. I bought it for peace of mind as some parts are crazy price. You need to get the car serviced annually at a VW dealer or using VW parts.

Speaking from recent experience I would say stick with official VW warranty. I pay £32 a month (zero excess, 15K miles limited per year) for my official VW extended warranty on my 2013 GTI. In the last 9 months I have have had a new thermostat, water pump and rear spring (it had snapped, failing mot). I think this lot came to around £900 using VW main dealer pricing.
So overall the warranty has worked well for me. My local VW dealer prices matches my local VW indie specialist, so that is a bonus. My warranty runs out in November, the car will be on about 61K miles by then, so it depends on the annual renewal quote is I may or may not go for another year. The last two years have been the same price.

I just got a Vw quote of £510 for a 10k £100 excess policy for a 2013 gti dsg.
Do they insist on Vw servicing as it’s a extended warranty and not a new car warranty?
I think I paid £450 for a warranty direct policy last year. A company I’ve used a few years with success on 3 vehicles.

I ask as mine was already within VW warranty before being extended again, I have heard if not in warranty already with VW the price is more expensive.
Not sure about VW main dealer only servicing, I think EU law allows you to use any VAT registered garage as long as genuine VW parts are used. But if your VW dealer will price match an indie, it easier all round to use the main dealer and makes the claims process smoother.

No I brought my car privately.
The eu rule I believe only relates to a new car warranty. Manufacturers extended warranties are usually run by a independent insurance company so they can make up there own rules.

Pretty certain that there’s a requirement in the small print of the VW extended warranty document for servicing to be carried out by a VW dealer. Can’t check just now as I’m in the pub :grin: and the warranty document won’t download to my phone, but my pint of real ale is more of a priority at the moment than VW’s extended warranty document. :smiley:
Edit; just home and checked. Servicing doesn’t have to be carried out by a VW dealer - the requirement is that servicing is carried out in accordance with VW recommendations using genuine VW parts. Extract from the ‘General Conditions’ section of the extended warranty booklet;
- Servicing must be carried out in accordance with vehicle manufacturer recommendations. Genuine Volkswagen components, oils and other fluids or components, oils and other fluids of equivalent specification and matching quality must be used. Failure to comply with this condition will result in a warranty claim being rejected.
- Failure to keep your vehicle serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s service schedule will void the warranty. You must keep all servicing receipts and invoices. We will be entitled to check that your vehicle has been serviced regularly and may ask to see these in the unlikely event that the condition of your vehicle does not appear to correspond with your vehicle service schedule.

I just got a quote for my Vw Touareg 2013. Vw want £2,800 a year !
Vw obviously have faith in their Touareg !😂
In comparison I pay warranty direct £600 for the same cover.
