Title: Brake upgrade
Post by: Ryan90GTI on 07 July 2019, 11:24
Morning all. The car is booked in for service on Friday and I've got a feeling they're going to mention the front discs and pads are about ready for changing.

Has anyone upgraded or even gone down the big brake kit route? I was thinking of going for CSS discs and pads with some braided lines and some performance fluid.

Anyone any suggestions? Ta.

Guess it depends how hard you use your brakes? In the times I’ve used mine in anger on the road, I’m still probably only using 50% max of the braking power. So unless you are planning massive bhp mods, I really don’t see any point to upgrading the brakes. Just my view though.

I do agree that the brakes a pretty decent but as I'll be changing the discs and pads anyway I always like to upgrade on stock whenever possible.

Can understand upgrading discs and pads if they need replacing. But big brake kits are a waste unless you are planning massive bhp.

Like you say - CSS discs and upgraded pads will hopefully improve fade resistance a bit. The upgraded lines will also give you a better pedal feel.

Had you thought about getting aftermarket aftermarket standard sized disc with some form of grooves in them? I've always upgraded to them on previous cars and always liked how they feel - admittedly never had the option of CSS discs but they are quite expensive in comparison.

I've purchased some Clubsport discs but haven't decided on pads yet.

Any recommendations?

Back to big brakes, RS3 calipers do look good though with Prets...

I bought a stage two kit from Racingline and it arrived today, so hopefully I will get it fitted tonight. I'll get some pics up when done :)
