Title: Mk6 Golf GTi, £8k.
Post by: imprezzaworks on 19 June 2019, 15:43
Hi guys. Have been on the hunt for a little while and always appreciated these. Red 10 plate local to me and looks spot on.

Ideally would be after a members well maintained car, but is 8k do able to nab a nice car?

Dan.

It looks a nice spec car, shame it's not got xenons, but you'll only know if it's any good by standing in front of it.

Some private sellers are happy to accept a little more than WBAC offers for a hassle free sale, rather than holding out for close to retail money, so could be worth a trip.

He messaged me saying he has an issue with eBay messages and gave me an email

For some reason i think it's a scam

Before the internet, we would see an advert in the paper, ring up and go and see the car before any money changed hands. You are wise to assume it may be a scam, but there's every chance that it isn't. Go and see the car, do your checks and then make your mind up.

For sure. Works both ways.

Can't see it being a scam with eBay feedback like he's got or people that are scammers usually don't advertise there old seal album

Look at his eBay feedback and other items he's selling then ask for a phone number or as it's 4 hours away your probably not going to buy it anyway

I have and nothing back apart from an odd worded reply via eBay asking me to email him instead, which i did.

I've done a 6 hour round trip to Carlisle to buy an Evo 7 before now so don't assume i won't do the journey ;)

That's what we always used to do. A road trip was all part of the enthusiasm for the cars.

It's a bit like car shows. Many people don't bother going anymore. There is no anticipation of big reveals, as everyone has already seen the build thread on instaface.

How times have changed mate.

These days you can find the history of the car relatively easily.

No idea. As he hasn't even replied and the car is too cheap, time imo would be wasted.

I wouldn't say it's too cheap if he takes it to a dealer to px it he will be lucky to get 5k

Lol where do you get 5k from?

In relation to cap they are a book car, which is 7500

Well that's to much this one is a mk7 and was bought for 10k so can't see a mk6 getting 7.5k

What are the WBAC or Evans Halshaw valuations? They are generally a good guide to 'kick in the dick' valuations of out of warranty cars.

They use cap iirc.

Cap values mk4 r32s at 1600 quid al buy 4 at that price if you can find them

Over the past few months I've seen maybe two mk6's go through a dealer auction site and fetch cap clean or a touch more. These days most cars will fetch the same. No more buying at cap average lol.

Just spotted the car in question on pistonheads at £10995.

Either a mistake initially or a scam.
