For this one and my previous 7.5 GTI, I decided on the map view with the small dials for the AID as I find the dials look too big normally. I pretty much have stuck with that as the default setting. Recently tried a change so using this for a few days now with the map on my screen. Mine is basic so can't have maps in both.

I do wish it was more configurable and would have been great if it was like the Audi S/RS models where you can have a central rev counter display or something similar. Guess as it's free we have to make do!
Anyway, what doe everyone else in a 7.5 have it set to?

Green? What model do you have?

Normally run with map on both but still looking at vagcom settings as mine is a retrofit in a 2013 GTI.

Most of the time I will have waze running on the main screen, but if it's a quick trip up the road then it'll just be a music app.

dude, it’s the 10 colour mod, although it’s a GT TDi (too many stolen gti/gtd round here)
-
Never the same for me, always changing it.
If I'm going a distance usually Google maps on screen & music on AID
-
Usually the efficiency view with phone in the middle.
When you start VW nav it pops up the map on the AID, but to be really useful you need to manually select the navigation AID mode, which adds you junction/lane stuff. I rarely use it though, usually just use waze...

Why is no-one watching their oil temperature??

Because it’s not 1975?!?

Always got map and small dials in the aid.
Driving data or radio/audio on the main display.

Splendid. Hasn’t realised the laws of physics had changed. So no one waits for the oil to warm up before pushing the engine?

I’m sorry youngsters but no.
Your techie ipadesque binnacles look like 1980’s Alba Argos stereos.
Analogue dials are perfect and really don’t need a fancy makeover.
I will not be contributing to this thread.

Did a small VCDS mod to mine shortly after I got the GTI to enable the "classic" mode which I use most of the time for it's uncluttered look. I also like that there are sub-divisions in the speedo figures and that it does away with the italic font (just personal preference of course), and that the fuel window is just a little larger and therefore a bit easier to read. It does however "reduce" the maximum speed from 180mph down to a mere 160mph :D

That looks really good, like the classic view! Definitely would be nice for a sporty view as well.
-
I take it "classic mode" is how AID looks on a Golf Match or something...

I don't think there's many enthusiasts out there who will abuse their car from cold. With modern technology and engine tolerances, engine oil warms up so quickly these days, normally about 10mins or so on the Golf, and protective tolerances are built in to kick in at much lower operating temperatures.
The GTI isn't a highly tuned performance car either, it's a family hatchback with a moderate engine output from an engine block that's been developed and used for many years.
Whilst I totally get your sentiment, I personally think that in 2019 it's superfluous on a car like this and it doesn't even cross my mind.
-
I display oil temp. The time it takes for engine to reach operating varies a fair bit, so I do find it useful.
And who knows how tolerant the engines are? Look after it and it’ll look after you !

Good man. Coolant takes minutes to warm up but from properly cold the oil can take a good 20 minutes to hit 100 degrees. Tuned or not tuned, the protection the oil provides against metal grinding in to metal isn’t fully achieved until it’s pretty warm.
But then I tend to keep my golf for a bit longer than many as it is a second car. I wouldn’t be so bothered if it were on a 3 year pcp deal and changed at the end.

I wonder if anyone will ever come up with skin updates for these type of clocks. It would be good to get a more sporty look like Audi and Seat seem to use.
It can't be that hard, I would be interested in knowing where the skins are stored if the memory can be flashed.
-
TBH, I would just settle for red needles like the sporty Golf's have always had.
