Sorry if it's already been covered but is there a way of putting up to date Speed Camera locations on the VW Sat Nav system?
Or is there a way of getting my Cameralert app to show on my infotainment screen?
Cheers
-
I've got speed cams on my nav pro.
-
Yes, you can get them from PocketGSWorld (£20 per annum) and load them as personal points of interest. The other possibility is Waze, if you have CarPlay. Waze is kept very up to date by user participation.
-
If you load them as POI's onto VW nav, then you get a pathetic tiny "bing" noise when you are on top of them.
Not much use...
If you have AppConnect, use Waze.
-
Cheers guys, really appreciate the advice/help.
How do I know if I've got App Connect?.
-
Car built on or after week 22 in 2015.

You might not have App Connect in all cars built during or after wk22 in 2015 as it was an extra cost option on the mk7 Golf. If you weren’t the first owner, the original owner might not have specified it.
Also, from what I’ve read on some other forums, it seems that some of the early MIB II infotainment units aren’t App Connect compatible if it wasn’t a factory fit option specified by the first owner. If you check in the car settings via the infotainment screen, if it’s compatible there should be an App Connect icon and selecting the option should generate a message something along the lines of ‘App Connect can be activated by means of an activation key available from the dealer’.

Cheers I'll check that out. Mines a Dec 17 registered.

Yours will be a mk7.5 Golf. You’ve not said what model of Golf you have but SE model and above of the mk7.5 Golf should have App Connect as standard.
-
Sorry, yes it's a mk7.5 golf GTi performance.
I've checked & it's got android app & mirror link.
I can get Waze through android app but my mobile doesn't support mirror link.
Not sure how good waze is regarding speed camera notifications?
-
Don't use mirror link.
Use Android Auto or CarPlay (depending whether you have android or apple!)
Waze is brilliant for speed cameras, you can configure all sorts of options around it, including the one I use which is to not make an audible alert unless I am approaching one in excess of the speed limit.
Unlike most it also provides those alerts (and others) even when not actively providing route guidance.

Waze is excellent with speed cameras, assuming your travelling on a reasonably frequented road (which tends to be where they put the mobile cams anyway).
It's possibly the best as it uses real-time driver reports, so a new camera will show up on your map within a few minutes. I also believe that Google Maps is now using that same data, but I always use Waze so haven't tried it out yet.

This is how my Waze works, but I'm not sure it's a setting we can change. If so, can you point me in the right direction, I'd like an alert regardless of whether I'm exceeding the speed limit. That would be useful for the cameras where it's variable speed limit.

Google owns Waze... some of the stuff from Waze gets onto Google Maps, but not all - mainly its accidents and road closures, its not the speed cameras!
The options for alerts are in the options config for Waze...

"Further, Google Maps is also rolling out the ability to see speed cameras on a much larger basis too. For users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, India, and Indonesia, speed cameras will be marked on the map"

Under cameras, I only have the options "Show on map", "Alert me while driving". I can't see an option to alert me only we exceeding the limit.

Hmmm you are right, I am sure it used to let you choose...

Only a matter of time before it's not free then...

Getting to like Waze, Fred, but I can’t find the options for how speed camera warnings are presented. Can you show me where, please?
I like to have Waze on the Infotainment screen, for the up to date road hazard info, and the VW Nav on the digital dash, for the Nav info.

I'd say its only a matter of time before Waze gets fully integrated into Google Maps and Waze is deleted. They've owned it since June 2013 though.

As I said above, they seem to have deleted all of the options for it. It now only lets you be audibly warned if you exceed the speed limit....

I much prefer the look of Google Maps as opposed to Waze on Carplay. Waze looks like it should have spoken directions in the voice of those annoying adults on the Haribo adverts
Surprised they have monetised it for directions on phone apps yet so maybe waiting to integrate Waze first.

How many Google products have you had to pay for? I can’t think of one.

They keep asking me to pay for YouTube! They started charging for using maps on websites last year now that almost every website uses them. And why wouldn't they, they aren't a charity after all.
-
You can no longer enter speed camera locations icon on Waze, (mine anyway), you can only add the police icon.
Has anyone seen speed cameras on Google maps it should have 'rolled' out by now?
-
Thanks for all the advice/info guys. Really useful to know this stuff.
-
I tried Waze, thought it was crap so use my nav pro with speed cams on. Don't have any issues what so ever, maps are fully up to date and my cam file is updated every 6 months.
-
Can you only connect android auto by a usb cable or will it connect by wireless?

USB currently, but wireless is coming. Whether it'll require a headset update I don't know.
-
The only way you'll get wireless app connect is by buying a mk8. Kinda expensive upgrade...
-
Rather than a speed camera app, is there a way of configuring the Nav System to alert you when exceeding the speed limit?
I had this on an old TomTom unit and it was brilliant, but not able to get it to work on the Nav System which I presume is more Garmin based.
-
No it won't do that, only alert you to a camera if it's already loaded.

Waze does that...
