Hi everyone,
whilst i await the delivery of the new beast (feels like its taking forever!) im looking into costs/fitting of a blackvue dashcam in the Surrey area.
Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I see Halfords will be having a 10% discount next week, which would basically cover their usual cost of fitting, but would rather use an independent really.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, including whether the blackvue's are a good fit for the Gti.

I used Halfords Sheffield for fitting a Nextbase one and they were absolutely spot on. £30 hardwire includes fitting so its a bargain.
Great job, very neat with visible signs that any trim had been moved.

Nextbase 212. Just wanted something entry level. Does the job for £69 plus £30 for the fitting/hardware kit.
Blackvue look good though.

I had a dash cam, fitted it myself, but have since removed it..............why.............well the police can ask to take it away for analysis if there is an incident.............so sometimes the dash cam can provide evidence against you...........so be careful.......personally i only use mine in my campervan to record driving on beautiful roads ......like the Atlantic highway

You have to be a seriously dodgy driver to warrant you taking your dashcam out so police wont use the footage as evidence against you considering everyone else is recording as well. :grin:

I borrowed an new M3 for a week a few years ago off a guy I know and he had a dash cam fitted. He said if you make a mess and it all goes wrong, just eat the micro SC card! :grin:

No I'm not a seriously dodgy driver at all, I just don't want any evidence to incriminate me if I'm out having a bit of fun and some other idiot makes a mess of things that I get caught up in. I don't live in a city so don't have to worry about the odd brain dead school run car hitting me.

Tbh I'm not worried about incriminating myself, the whole reason I want a dashcam is to be used if someone else is driving like a knob, and then disputing it with me.
If I was having "a bit of fun" and caused damage to someone else's property then I'm in the wrong.
Anyhoo that's not what this post topic was about, anymore cam recommends?

I'm thinking of getting a BlackVue DR750S 2 channel. Great features, fps and sensor.
Primarily I like the compact & discreet way the front camera will be able to tuck up behind the RVM.

Just done a customers car where half the screws that hold the glovebox in were missing, but he had a bonus as the Halfords fitter had left he’s torx bit in the fuse box, :grin:

Halfords absolutely butchered Someone's Polo in the Polo forum. The Polo has no upper tailgate trim, so to hide it neatly, you should go through the tailgate wiring gaiters, through the lower half of the tailgate and pop up towards the centre of the tailgate from behind the rear wiper to hide wiring on the rear dashcam.
Halfords mounted the rear cam from the top of the tailgate by slitting the tailgate wiring gaiter and poking wire through.

Blimey, that was my worry with halfords. Think I'll be getting it fitted professionally by someone who actually gives a sh!t about the 30k car their working on!

If you're handy, you can do it yourself in 90-120 mins for dual cams and about 45 mins for front only if hardwiring.
Tidiest way is to mount front cam on passenger side so that you can't see it from the drivers side, notch the front cap for the rear view mirror attachment to the windscreen and then feed the wires up and through the adjacent cover to the headlining, head left on the main/front cam cable and down the passenger A pillar into the fuse box. Take the rear cam wiring along the drivers side headlining and across the A-pillar then where headlining and upper drivers door seals meet, poke into the seam between B-pillar and headlining, then across the seals/headlining for rear door, poke into C-pillar headlining seam and into rear headlining trim cap. Fiddliest bit is feeding cable into rubber gaiter for tailgate wiring.
Plenty of guides about with pics, notably one on VWROC from years ago. Fitted one to my Golf R, McMaddy's GTI, the wife's A1, removed from the A1 and fitted to the Polo GTI+ that replaced it and took out my Golf's a few weeks ago - Golf now sold, Dashcam waiting for arrival of new car in a few weeks time, to refit.
With no magic box required, rear 1080p camera and heat management, I'd take a Thinkware over a Blackvue anyday. I had a Blackvue 650 2 ch for a week before it fried itself overheating over a cool week. The 2 Thinkware F770s we have between the 2 cars have worked flawlessly for about 3 years each. The night time footage is noticeably better than the Blackvue's too.
