Title: replacing the middle rear seat belt on a mk 7 GTI 3 door
Post by: chrisgolf1 on 28 March 2019, 08:33
Hi,

My dog, who was travelling on the back seat, had become unusually quiet, which I thought was a good thing, until I realised it had taken a liking to the middle rear seat belt and had managed to chew a good chunk off of it.

I'm waiting for a replacement to come from a dismantler but just wondering if anyone had any experience of replacing the reel, which is tucked into the seat back. Seems like I am going to have to take off the carpet and get to it that way unless anyone knows any different?

Thanks

As with all seat belts, the reel needs to be at a certain angle for it to unwind. It's to do with how the inertia mechanism works, it will only release in it's 'installed' position, so don't think it doesn't work if you can't unwind it before it's fitted.

Thanks for that; handy tip to know about.
