Title: Getting a bit annoyed....
Post by: Voodoom on 26 March 2019, 14:47
Ordered the GTI on 20th November last year, build week 25th February this year. Eventually, the tracker said it arrived in the UK on the 12th of March. Has been sat in Grimsby since then, and the dealer at this point isn't even responding to my emails. Over 18 weeks. Unbelievable. I know people have waited longer due to the new emissions test, but that was pretty much sorted by the time I ordered. Do other car companies treat their customers with such a flippant attitude? Not what I'd expect for a £30K+ car.

Anyone else experienced such a long wait to get it from the docks to the dealership?

Just needed to vent.

It's up to the dealer to request a transporter to get cars from dock to dealer. Suppose it depends if they do it weekly or fortnightly and where your dealer is in the country.

I would chase them on the phone rather than email

Just had an email to say that the dealer has been chasing for a transporter, so seems like at least they are trying. Not sure how the system works - is it a VW transporter, that they book through VW, or does the dealer just work with an independent haulage company?

Nevertheless,  the overall VW customer service experience is left wanting.. The dealer is in the South East, but still, it's not a thousand miles away!

I'm sure the car will be worth the wait...

Why Grimsby? I thought cars for the south-east came in via Sheernesss?

Was thinking the same earlier but couldn't remember the port

Is that right? In that case I could just pop over there and pick it up myself.  (I guess that's not how it works...)

My dealer has told me there has been an issue at the sheerness dock and is causing cars to be delayed.
I’ve no idea of what the issue is buy my car landed last week and is on its way to the dealer 25 miles from the dock.

VW are the worst car company I've come across for customer service.

I have to agree. However my salesman is trying to make up for Vw’s short comings. He’s just emailed me at 9pm to tell me my car has arrived at the dealer this afternoon.

I’ve had around 15 new Golf GTI’s over the years and it’s painful to deal with the VW logic. But I keep coming back.

I've had no complaints from the two dealerships I have got my VW's from. As with most brands I've found it comes down to the dealer rather than the badge, there are both good and bad out there.

However, if you think VW is bad, you should try Land Rover, I defy you to find any dealer that has a good reputation. Mind boggling levels of apathy and "not giving a sh!t", that's one brand I am glad to be out of.

My car was 2.5 weeks at Grimsby. I’m at Scarborough, so only 75 miles, or so, up the road. Very frustrating, but my dealer was doing all they could. I was told that the port had cars stood everywhere there was space, making it next to impossible to locate and recover specific cars from a ship load. It seems VW, and everyone else, is getting as many cars over here before brexit as they can, which is causing chaos!

Ah, that's interesting - good to know I'm not the only one in (or just out of!) this boat. When did you eventually get yours, if you don't mind me asking?

I can see where the problem might lie:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sheerness/@51.4244334,0.7407807,1315a,35y,39.09t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x47d8d5fd673a9139:0xb08db03282ac83a7!8m2!3d51.44011!4d0.764158

I guess they double park them to save space...

My car was reported by the app, confirmed by my dealer, as being at Grimsby on Tuesday March 5th. I eventually picked up the car on Friday March 22nd. I got the impression that car storage at Grimsby has become an absolute nightmare. Thankful that my car arrived apparently I damaged!

The app suggests that the average time from arriving at UK port to delivery at the dealer is 7 days, but this has obviously become totally impossible, due to the sheer number of cars in transit.

I’ve just collected mine yesterday. It arrived in Grimsby at 9pm on Wednesday 12th, was on a transporter by the Friday afternoon and arrived at dealers Monday 18th. I then delayed collection for a week as I needed to coordinate the old car being collected. So cars CAN get through Grimsby quickly!
