How much does a DSG oil change currently cost?
I’m thinking of having it done on my Mk7 MY 16 PP, 21k miles
Do I have to go to dealer to get it done quickly and properly?

According to the link below it costs £199. You don't have to go to the dealers and I'm sure you will find it cheaper at your local independant VAT registered VW specialist. It's completely up to you.

Why are you getting it done at 21k miles? Absolutely a waste of money, 40k is recommended for the wet clutch and when mine was done there wasn't much discolouration in the old fluid.
-
Not sure about DSG boxes as only having owned my GTI for 3 months, but previous experience on conventional auto boxes, oil condition is dependent upon driving conditions and age, not just mileage.
For £200 to extend the life of a major mechanical component costing (I imagine) at least 10x that value - you can’t beat preventative maintenance.

I paid £179.10 (10% discount was offered) back in February, service was done at 39,762 miles

My previous A4 was an auto with 40k oil changes for the box. It failed at 80k with an uncomfortable 4 figure bill, the repairers who were specialists recommended 20k oil changes so there could be some value in additional changes as per above. It certainly can't hurt and so long as the OP is happy to spend the extra. For me though it would also depend on how long I was going to keep the car.

I get mines done next week at the dealer it’s a 2013 but it’s only done 25k, it’s more for peace of mind as it could be 10yo before it gets to 40k costing £189 also get a oil service for the same amount.

Excellent responses and advice from everyone, as I’m coming to expect on this forum, many thanks.
It’s of great help to me.

Thanks and as you can see the others are reassuringly suggesting this level of pricing too, at a dealer.

finglonga, I didn’t know what the interval was, thanks for that.

Well, I suppose I’m one of those odd people who change the engine oil every 3 - 6k when I can, not always the filter though, not necessary imho
Because I’m not an engineer, I don’t subscribe to the “if it ain’t broke” school here because if it did break because of oil problems, it would almost be uneconomical to fix it!
You will have seen Watts input on this point.
In any case, because the DSG is imho one of the best things about the car, I just feel better giving it a little extra care. It more than deserves it :-)

That’s a good idea, I’ll try that, the engine oil service included in £189
Good point about reaching 40k safely - mines 3 year old but only 21k. Peace of mind.

Watts, as ever, good points, thanks.

Re. “depend on how long I was going to keep the car.”
Do think it could be a good selling point particularly if you sell privately - I guess adealer couldn’t care less?

My local independent said that TBH, his price would not be greatly different from a main dealer because most of the cost is in the specialist oil. Around £180 sounds good to me.
Having come from a Mk5 GT Tdi with DSG I am still a bit old school about always putting into neutral and using parking brake unless for very brief stops. Still can't really accept that even if the plates marginally separate using park hold that there won't be some deterioration/local oil overheating. I will probably change around 30K but this may be time rather than distance related.

roger20, thanks.
“.... because most of the cost is in the specialist oil.”
That’s useful to know and I was going to ask forum members what the labour/oil cost split was.

Adam T7, “.... on conventional auto boxes, oil condition is dependent upon driving conditions and age, not just mileage.“
Yes, that’s surely the point. It would be crazy to wait say 10 years for a oil change at 40k. Every day that oil is heating up to over 100C then cooling down to near freezing, well at this time of the year Up North, at least.
A tough life (for the oil, not living Up North!).
I don’t want to start another debate here but a thought just struck me that VW might just say 40k to keep fleet managers running costs for their DSG cars down?

@Peter, be better to use the quote button when replying to individual posts, as I have done here, it's much easier and your comment can be more easily seen, rather than lost at the bottom of the post!

£86.42 labour
£41.64 Oil
£16.92 Filter
£4.27 Seal Ring
That’s with a 10% discount and without the dreaded Vat
-
Just to update.... I had the dsg service done to day possibly a placebo but I’m thinking the changes are much smoother especially down.

2007GTI, 2007GTI, thanks and I'm happy to try to remember to use the quote button as you suggest.

roger20, you will have seen eccie post on 30 March.
This says that the split is
£86.42 labour
£41.64 Oil
£16.92 Filter
£4.27 Seal Ring
That’s with a 10% discount and without the dreaded VAT
So that indicates more like 60/40 cost, I suppose?

eccie, that detailed breakdown is very useful to know, thanks.
I'm looking forward to comparing it with the invoice my dealer presents me with!

dereks, just so that I've understood you correctly before I take mine in, when you say "oil service for the same amount", did it turn out to be that the DSG oil change and filter, AND the engine oil change with filter together, was a total of £189 including VAT?
I get mines done next week at the dealer it’s a 2013 but it’s only done 25k, it’s more for peace of mind as it could be 10yo before it gets to 40k costing £189 also get a oil service for the same amount.

I had the DSG oil service and an engine oil change done
One was £179 and the other £185 can't remember which is which.

dereks, ok I’ve got it now, thanks.
I can’t believe there would be any circumstances where I’d pay anybody £179 or £185 to do a simple engine oil change.
