Hey guys, first post here so sorry if this isnt in the correct section :undecided:
Just been for a test drive of a mk7.5 pp DSG and loved it!
Spec wise what id like is DSG, white, Brescia wheels. Nothing crazy spec wise.
So a couple of things, firstly the dealership said im looking at a 6 month wait for a new build with that spec!
But they had a couple in stock they could get their hands on but with slightly different spec, one with pearlescent paint, and tinted windows. To which he said they could take 10% off, which is unheard of, but couldnt get anywhere near £350-£370 per month on a PCP deal, which is my budget.
Am i mad to think that id get the spec i want for around that figure, with minimal deposit? im sure ive seen on here people getting bigger discounts than that.
Also, i need the car beginning of may, so a 6 months wait is out of the question.
Any help would be great :)
-
Have you thought about leasing? I’m sure you could get one for your budget. And the only option you are adding is brescias so may add about £20 a month to the advertised price
-
There are some cracking lease deals around £250pm. I thought about them when I was looking. Discount wise I got £6k off an R. You can get around 15% off if you’re willing to look around.
-
Have you asked Drive The Deal or Carwow for a quote?
Drive The Deal are offering almost 17% off list price.
-
I spoke with DTD at weekend. At least 3 month wait. My dealer had availability so should only wait 3 weeks. Something to consider.
-
You don't have to order via Drive The Deal. Just use their quotation to beat down your local dealer
-
Discount before Xmas was 15%+
Discount since the turn of the new year has reduced to circa 5-10% and are reducing the further we get towards summer.
Re your monthly - with 10% discount the numbers look like this on your factory order spec:
Golf 5-door GTI Performance, DSG, Solid Paint and Brescias
Base price with 10% discount applied = £28,336.50
+ Options - £600
+ VED - £205
+ OTR Costs - £690
= Total OTR £29,831.50
Over 4yrs and 10k miles per annum.
Deposit - £0
47x £436.72pcm
1x £12,269.70
For every £1000 in or out of the deal (whether that be your deposit or more discount) you add or minus roughly £27 to the pcm. So to get to your £370 you would need to put in c£2500 deposit. The car with pearl paint and tints is c£1000 more expensive than your factory order spec, so on paper your monthly cost will be £27 per month more i.e. circa £462pcm with zero deposit.
Given you aren't ticking any options, have a look at leasing, but they will require a larger upfront payment of circa £2000+.
HTH
-
I ordered early Jan. Being built next week, delivery mid March. Isaac Blue, Brescias and DynAudio. £3k down and £329 p/m (x47). I stated 5k annual miles even though I’ll do double that. No one ever pays the surcharge unless the cars handed back at the end. I always sell privately or to another dealer before end of the term. Saves another £20 a month doing it that way. But as someone said, there are some good lease deals again at the moment so that may be worth a look.
-
Saves another £20 a month doing it that way.
You don't "save" £20 a month because you will pay that back in the interest over the term. Lower milage equals a higher balloon and a lower monthly, but a higher balloon means more interest being charged as your deferred amount is larger.
If you don't plan on handing the car back, then the best thing to do is have the milage at a realistic level or a bit higher so you pay less interest and pay off more capital each month, so when you settle early you won't be in as much negative equity.
-
Hi there ... when looking about 2 weeks ago I was quoted mid to end of April for a 3 Door with Art Velour interior and a few options- so not 6 months.
There certainly seems to be a decent level of stock about but it’s selling - cars with non Parker wheels and non standard interior being a bit harder to find.
I would have thought a discount in the 15% margin should be achievable

Ah but that’s the whole point. I don’t settle either. At the end of the term I sell it and start all over again. It’s either that or borrow £30k over 4 years on a loan, so pcp for me is a no brainier. The mrs won’t allow savings to be spent on a depreciating asset so buying outright isn’t an option.

This. Since production started again after WLTP shutdown, I have not heard of any wait longer than 3months. It sounds like the dealer is trying to flog the OP a stock car to get his targets in before the 1st of March.
OP, have a look on Carwow under stock cars, there's a few new & unregistered cars knocking around with basic spec.
:)

You are settling, you're settling the final payment which is a) higher on a lower milage stated agreement and b) means you've paid more interest over the term due to a higher £ being deferred.
Wether you choose to sell it isn't relevant, as you still have a final balloon to pay, which is higher due to your stated milage at the start of the agreement.
On a 5DR DSG Performance, the deferred balloon after 4yrs are currently quoted at:
5k miles a year = £12,921.30
10k miles a year =£12,269.70
15k miles a year = £10,872.90
20k miles a year = £9,576.00
25k miles a year = £8,545.50
30k miles a year = £7,515.00
So by putting your milage down as 15k a year rather than 5k means you need to pay less at the end of the term, you will also pay a lot less interest over the term, and should you need to come out of the agreement early you will have a lower settlement figure because you will have paid more capital.
-
I get that. But £329 is approaching the upper limit of what I’m prepared to pay each month. Note I said ‘prepared to pay’ as opposed to being able to ‘afford to pay’ before anyone chimes in that you shouldn’t buy what you can’t afford. I was paying £260 for my Audi so jumping to £329 was a tough pill to swallow without adding even more on to it. On your quoted balloon figures my actual mileage is around 9k so it’s not going to make a huge amount of difference. But I do get where you’re coming from. I don’t really care about interest or the TCO unless we’re talking massive savings. I’m paid monthly, I pay the mortgage monthly, I pay for the car monthly. The more I spend on the car, the less monthly disposable I have available to splurge on other luxuries or throw into savings. Horses for corses.

Thanks for all your replies, really appreciated. It's interesting to hear that the lead time shouldn't be 6 months, tbh I kinda thought that was bull. I had been looking at lease deals prior, as soon as I mentioned to the guy he was very anti it, saying ooh, you will most probably get stung for loads of nit picky costs when handing back. Probably just trying to sell their own stock cars which were out of budget.
I have been on car wow and have struck up a few conversations so fingers crossed with be able to sort something around the budget. I doubt I'll get a pcp deal with next to nothing depost and for 350 a month, so leasing maybe the only option. Will see tho, if they can do a good discount 15% or something, it may be doable.
I hand my TT back at the end of April so have a few months to sort something out.
Thanks again guys, looking forward to joining the club! 😁 hopefully

Exactly what I did.
-
Can you use Carwow or drive the deal to spec out a non-standard car? I've tried and failed to add leather upholstery into the Carwow selection. I'm surprised that DCC isn't standard on GTI PP (I know there's only one engine spec now).
Per VW Config my 5 door DSG in Indium Grey, with leather, DCC and 19 inch alloys is over £36k. Of course I'm not paying that. Trying to aim for around £31k. Happy to get nearly new if it comes with all the options I want.

Me too, but using CarWow. Got the price best to buy, and the best valuation on my current car and presented both to a couple of local dealers - one of them was miles away in terms of both discount and valuation, the other made the deal.

Yes you can do this on both sites.
On Carwow step 4 if 5 after you've chosen a car is the 'customise your car' and there is an option in blue font just above the green button 'choose add-ons'.
On Drive The Deal, after you've picked your model all the options are listed, you just tick the box for the ones you want.
-
Thanks. Drive the deal site worked really well. Gave me a price of £31,083 so I know what to tout around the local dealers.
-

An increase from 10% to 15% discount will take an extra £1488.55 off the price which works out at a few pence short of £40 per month off the monthly cost. So at your spec your PCP will be £396 a month with zero deposit. The only way you will get near £350 on a PCP is by putting in a deposit.
Cheapest lease currently out there is 6+24 at £290 a month. So a £1740 upfront payment.
-
So I've now got a few offers from car wow, one being 1000 down then 359pm on pcp over 4 years. That's 15% discount, which is more than the 10 I was offered at yesterday's dealer who was addimant that was unheard of... Going to have another test drive and see what they say when I'm actually in the dealership. Will see what they can do re throwing in servicing.
-
So back after another test drive and loved it, the dsg box is so nice. Now only thing to decide on is white or red 😂 I hate this part of buying a new car, decisions...

Out of the two, I'd go Red. The car I drove when I was testing 19's without DCC was red and on Brescias, it looked great, here it is...

Did they give you the full 15%?
-
Yeah that's like the one I drove, im so torn now. She said it works out 15% off list price including the 1500 dealer deposit contribution. I need to fully figure it out, basically works out to 48 monthly payments of 359.68. That's with me putting in 1k

From the 1st of Feb deposit contribution on all Golfs (excluding the GTE) have an extra £500 on top of the usual £1500. The £2000 offer ends tomorrow (the 17th).
-
Really?? Is that nationwide?
-
They won’t give you another £500 off though. This hasn’t changed DTD discounts.
-
The extra £500 is split £250 from VW finance and £250 from retailer and only based on cars delivered by end of March.
So if it’s a factory order or anything that won’t arrrive before the end of March you will only get the standard £1500 DC
-
Ah damn, oh well I've emailed the dealer anyway. Can only say no
-
Yup its a no lol
-
Yup its a no lol
Ask them to find you a new & unregistered car on the system and get it before the end of the month.
If the dealer doesn’t have anything ring a dealer which sits in a large(r) group such as Inchcape and tell them what you’re after. They can check their internal system for all stock across all dealers in that group and also what’s incoming.
The good thing is you now know exactly what you want and can get for your money, so armed with that info get on the blower to some large dealer groups, and say you will do the deal today/tomorrow if they have what you want.
-
Yeah only problem is, i dont need the car until end April when my lease is up on the current
-
Here you go...
White, Brescias, in-stock, pretty much 15% off as is, but the extra £500 isn't included in the price so that could/would go on top of the discount if you asked, taking it to over 15%.
https://quotes.carwow.co.uk/stock_cars/15685519
Ring your lease company and ask if they would take it back a month early without penalty? When I leased a Golf directly through VWFS I enquired abut sending it back 6 weeks early for which they said there would be no charge if I did...

First post!
I'm in the market for a new GTI and I took a trip to the dealers today. Was told that the lead time for a new build is 4 months but because I only want a 5dr DSG in white with no options that there's a good chance they can find one for me. They are going to call me on Monday to confirm.
Looks like I will miss out on the extra £500 deposit contribution as that promotion ended today.
Would have liked Brescias but the Parkers really do look better in the flesh that they do in photos and I think I would prefer my car to ride on 18" wheels.

Welcome karlos
Make sure they give you a great deal.

I'm in two minds, just seen gateway to lease have 24 month leases working out to around 300pm with 800 down. I do wonder if I'd be better off doing that...
-
Yes do that. Much much cheaper especially if you’re not speccing any options.
-
I just worry with leasing how nit picky they are about wear and tear when handing back. I've got to hand my tt back in May so I'll find out then I suppose! Having said that, I keep my cars well looked after anyways so should be fine. Have emailed gatway to get a quote with bigger alloys, if it's cheaper than the 360pm pcp then I think I defo need to consider leasing again
-
VWFS were fine to deal with when I handed back my Octy vRS. Even though there was a poor repair to a rear panel the charge was waived as the work had been done by a VW approved body shop.
There is a guide here about what happens at the end of the lease including BVRLA wear and tear guide and schedule of potential charges. In many cases the charge is less expensive than arranging the repair.
https://www.vwfinance.co.uk/en/privatecustomers/how_agreements_work/contract_hire/at_the_end_of_agreement.html
That lease deal looks like excellent value, however these appear to be stock cars, so you may want to check they are the latest spec.
-
They’ll be fine with a bit of minor wear and tear eg a few stone chips and maybe a light tickle on the alloys. When I looked at lease deals I think it added £12 pm for Brescias.
-
I'll see what they come back with, it does day 2019 car but there may well be a catch...
-
I handed back a Golf Match Edition to VWFS at the start of last year, which I'd had on a 2yr lease.
There was one minor door chip from where my ex had the door pinged in a car park, but that was covered under wear & tear.
The inspector went over it with a fine tooth comb, as this is where they try to claw any money back. Luckily I am one for keeping cars in good nick so nothing was picked up. He said that the first place they look is wheels, and also around the front bumper for pebble rash. He also said they also look inside for any "soiling" as this is common and costs them to have it wet valeted.
Wether you should go for lease v PCP, that's entirely your choice. From your original post it sounds as if you are conscious on cost, and you aren't bothered about options, so I think if I were in your position I would go lease as it will work out more finically viable over the term. RE the milage allowances on the lease, do some sums because it's sometimes cheaper to take a lease on a lower milage and then pay the excess pence per mile at the end. It will also depend on how long you plan to keep the car, a 2yr lease is all very well and good, but that time will fly by and in some cases VW won't offer good terms to extend, so if you plan to keep the car for longer then a PCP is probably best.
To give a real world scenario, my brother bought a brand new Golf GTi in March 2015, white, no options, on a 4yr PCP. He's now struggling to find anything that he would like to change into, he loves the Golf so much he's planning on getting a dirt cheap bank loan to pay the balloon in March as there's also a good chunk of equity in the car.
-
Thanks guys really appreciate your comments and advise!
-
I ordered Jan 2nd expecting delivery 20 to 26 weeks. Built first week of February and picking up on 2nd March. Actual build was the week before MyVW tracking so looks like short lead times at the moment, despite what dealers are saying. DTD great to deal with and main dealers just couldn't or wouldn't get close.
-
Ordered! Pure white, dsg and 19s.
Looking at a may delivery :) can't wait, just in time for summer!
Interestingly I had a letter from Audi lease yesterday saying mot is due 18th may, 1 day after the 3 year lease is up... surely that's not up to me to do considering the lease will be done by then?
-

Congrats, did you lease or PCP?
That MOT isn't your responsibility, as the lease will have ended, so make sure the car is inspected and handed back before that date.
-
Yeah i thought as much... Ill make sure i arrange collection early.
Went for PCP in the end (through a local dealership and carwow), 4 years, £359 per month, £1000 deposit.
Managed to get the first 2 years servicing for free.
Cant wait, hopefully should get an order number today and can start tracking it on the app.
Only thing im worried about is the 'stealability' of the car, but cant let that stop you having a nice car aye....
-
Went into my dealership yesterday, mainly to see where I stood, as my current 3 year PCP ends April 2nd. I know one of the sales guys quite well and he happened to be in the showroom, at a loose end. Long story short, I ended up getting a great deal on a Pure White GTI PP DSG with 19’s and tints, on another 3 year PCP, which is built, awaiting transit and assigned to the dealership. Really happy, as it’s a lovely car and gets round all the potential Brexit problems. Should pick up in 2 or 3 weeks. Not my favourite colour, but considering a gloss black roof wrap and black mirror caps.
Very few cars available anywhere for delivery before March 29th and the 10% surcharge, in the event of a no deal, seems to be an accepted fact within the trade. Presumably that reflects WTO rules?
-
Congrats, will be a nice looking car. Definitely get the black roof and mirror caps, here's mine, it's a CS but you'll get an idea on how it would look.

-
That looks very nice. How do you get the gloss black roof wrap?
-
Hmmm the dealer I've ordered mine with hasn't once mentioned any potential change to price and it's a factory build. Bit worrying
-
Not sure whether to try and change my 2yr old GTi for a new one or just stick with what I've got. Not really looking the look of mk8 pictures and if the 10% hike in prices happens then it'll make the any future new car way too expensive.
-

Tbh, white is not one of my favourite colours (although I have had two ) but that does look very good indeed

There’s nothing better out there right now than what you’ve already got unless you fancy an R and can pick one up at the right price.
A few tweaks to yours to refresh it would be a better option.
-
I assume if 2 year old you have a Mk7.5 already. Therefore no reason to change IMHO. I'm swapping a 4.5 year old Mk7 for a Mk7.5 and there is a reasonable enough diff (7spd DSG vs 6 spd DSG, digital dash, sat nav, Apple carplay) before the options I've specced to justify the change.
-
No it's a Mk7 not a 7.5, registered December 16. I'm just getting itchy feet and this is the longest I've had a car in recent times

Yes, that’s the look I’d be after. The spoiler will be different, but there is a line around it, that I’ve seen wrapped to, that makes it look good.
