Title: Hello, I've just pushed the button
Post by: themaninagolf on 26 January 2019, 11:33
Hi guys,

Have been lurking a while and lusting over a Mk7 GTi for ages.

Today is the day.  I've just formally joined the forum and also pushed the GO button for a Mk7.5 GTI Performance, 5 Door, Tornado Red with keyless entry and reversing camera.
I'd no intention of anything this extravagant, I was on the hunt for a 2015/16 model but when I phoned a local dealer to chase used stock and missed out he offered me a deal that I couldn't say no to on a brand new one.

I've not driven one yet but after 9 very happy years with a Mk5 GTi I'd say this will be a good one.

Delivery hopefully by the end of the week.

I can't wait!!!!

Pics to follow.

I can tell you now that you will not regret taking the plunge.
They are great cars and buying new is the way to go if you can afford to do it.
Have you gone manual or DSG box ?

EXcellent

thats a good choice must be looking forward to that, had a browse at my local VW in Watford last week as I mentioned I am after a 7.5 manual 3 door but nothing available at present, what size wheels did you go for?

Thanks guys,

I went for a manual - I just prefer the engagement of stick shifting.

It has the standard 18 Austins which I'm really happy with, they look great against the red.

Beyond myself in excitement as it's starting to sink in.  There's going to be some sleepless nights until I take delivery

:grin:yes definitely manual thats what im after, ive been thinking forward and backwards re: 18" versus 19" alloys, the roads here are dreadful, currently on 18" on my R32 which have had no issues. torando red is nice and a classic GTI colour !

The standard 18 inch GTi wheels now are Parker's. The Austin's were discontinued when the 7.5 was launched.

I waited six months for mine - it’s awesome - still running in as had it a month and done just over 500 miles. One of my better decisions - you will not regret it

Welcome Maninagolf!       :smug: :smug:

Very much enjoyed 2 years or so in a mk5 Golf GTI which was bog standard Tornado Red manual 3 door. Great car and future classic in making as becoming scarce at reasonable mileages now.  I have just passed the 500 mile mark in my new GTI performance in a week. It really is a do it all kind of car. I have managed 5 people (inc 3 kids) in my 3 door and still comfortable. It does 40mpg on a 110mile run return with that tall 7th gear no doubt helping and in eco mode. As said before still noisy exhaust evenin this setting.

Really enjoy putting it in to sport and it blips the throttle on downshifts noticeably and very quick to change through the gears compared to older dsg models I have had a go of.

Worst mpg so far is around 32 mpg using sport and not hanging back on B roads but happy with this.  Compared to my mk5 I had seen as low as 26mpg doing exact same route and manual shift.

Obviously more to come one run in more and trying not to stone chip the car with winter muck and a major issue with current weather on a black car especially.

Look forward to seeing you car posted and likewise I will try and choose a good day to give it a clean and some nice pics. Just not possible at moment.

Congrats maninagolf. It was the mk5 the reawakened my interest in the golf gti- i’m always interested to hear views on how it compares to the current gti.
Had my mk7.5 over a month now- 1200 miles, at least half of which were aimless. Driving it hard now it’s run in. Other than throttle response- which is a slight disappointment- it is living up to my high expectations.

Was it one of the stock cars Agnews have - I see they are offering deals on any of them registered before the end of the month
I did ring them last week myself and asked for someone to call me back - still waiting

Thanks Guzzle for keeping me right, rookie error!  They are 18’s.

And thanks guys for the encouragement.  I’ve never had a brand new car and having spent a decade in the car trade in a past life this is a heck of a move.
I plan to cherish every moment, and taking the long way home regularly.

Sean, mine was sourced from Cookstown. The offers that VW and VW finance are offering right now are shockingly good.  That’s why I did the deal.   I’m going to have a monthly payment slightly more compared to what I was going to pay for a 3 or 4 year old car.
I get your frustration with dealer sales guys. GTi’s aren’t with their effort, there’s no margin.

I’ve a “contact” if your are serious to purchase.  DM me. Either that or walk into the dealership and command their attention.

I take it was Hamilton’s in Cookstown you bought through
I only rang Agnews out out of interest to see what they were offering
I’d most likely buy through Philips in Lisburn as I bought my wife’s GTD and my CSS there and they are great to deal with and the I’ve been more than happy with the service there
The GTD is three year old in the summer and with the deals on the 7.5 I think it makes sense to go with one them rather than wait on the MK8
Health to enjoy the car they definitely are a great all rounder
