Title: Paintwork on 4.5 year old TR Golf GTD
Post by: runningman35 on 18 January 2019, 12:08
Just noticed in past week, paint peel happening on passenger door and wing mirror where Laqueur layer has failed in patches and is coming away with hand wash and light cleaning?!

Seems confined to one door overall and car going back today to lease company and told them about it and said won’t charge me where not my fault for wear and tear assessment fortunately.

Just wondering if this is a common issue with Tornado red or other colours?

N.b. My car door has not been repainted and I am the only keeper since new.

I wonder if it could have been damaged in transit or at the dealership prior to delivery/collection by you, and a repair carried out that you’d be unaware of. It happens.

God knows if it was damaged prior to delivery? It came on a transporter from a supplying dealer in England somewhere but never really noticed any signs of a repair in all the years of keeping it until now.

I had a mk5 gti which was around 12 years old when it was sold on, and it didn’t peel or fade and also Tornado Red so do wonder if a change to Laqueur or paint process may be to blame?

Thanks for your comments. Just hope doesn’t happen on my Black Pearl Gti.....
