Ordered 5dr manual GTI isaac blue on 7/10.
Seems I got lucky in avoiding wltp shenanigans as car now 5c on tracker and dealer tells me will be available this month- he’s keen for me to take early, presumably to hit sales targets.
Only reason not to take is to register as 2019 car, rather than December 18.
Question is, would that make a difference to resale- is a car registered 21/12/18 worth less than one registered 2/1/19?
Would appreciate any advice.

Take the car when it comes. It won't make a jot of difference.
-
It won't matter that much to start with, and it will make even less difference the longer you keep it.
Either way, you're taking delivery in winter in the crap weather.
-
Better in our garages than theirs l say
-
Who takes any notice of that? A 19 plate vs a 68 plate would make a bit of a difference, not December vs January. Get your car and do what you bought it for - drive it!
-
Yeah I’m inclined to just take it, even if late in the month. I suppose the December v January issue is more that it’ be a 2018 rather than 2019 car, probably just for the sake of a few days
-
I was thinking the exact same thing earlier but you beat me to the post.
-
It might be registered in 2019 but it's still a 68 plate car.

^^^^^ This
Get the car in your possession as soon as you can and just enjoy it. The difference in value will be next to nothing.

Thanks for replies, chaps. You’ve convinced me.
Expect car will be in UK this morning, I’ll email dealer to let him know i’ll take this month.
He said it may be “between Christmas and new year “, so I may suggest I’ll only take if this side of Christmas- I don’t know if they may be able to expedite if there’s an incentive

I looked into this previously as when I got my GTI was (by luck more than anything) on the transition from 63-14 plates.
Allegedly at about 3 years old (and this is a big generalisation) the depreciation on normal months was on average £200, whereas for a month where the plate changes or a year changes it's around £800.
No idea how accurate/truthful it is, but I read it on the internet around 5 years ago lol.
All that said, I'd still get it in December.

That’s not too far off.
I think VW used to work on around £250 a month deprecation on a Golf GTI/R for normal months and when they’re fairly new (ignoring the initial new car drop) then a larger drop when the plates change if you’re looking at part Ex prices. It drops to around £200 a month after a couple years but there’s also seasonal adjustment and supply and demand anomalies to take into account.
I dread to think what the monthly drops are on a high end BMW 6 series.
Ironically the highest depreciation is when the car has plenty of warranty and it evens out loads once it hits 3 years and you have to pay for your own repairs.

In contrast to everyone else - I would wait a week and have it registered as a 2019 car.
