Title: GTi Stereo Fault?
Post by: jaceyboy on 27 October 2018, 14:48
Guys, drove the wife's car earlier and upon starting the engine the radio display didn't show up, the actual sound came out but nothing on the display to be able to change the stations etc, just blank, this is the second time now, is this a common fault?, its a 2014 model and we have a years warranty when we bought the car...

i had this happen once when I owned my late 2013 GTI Performance.  But it only happened once and never again since.  Also when it happened to me I was listening to MP3 tracks not the radio.  It resolved itself when I had stopped the car and restarted it later in the day.

This happens to mine occasionally. Just needs rebooting.

Keep the power button pressed in until the screen goes blank and you see the VW logo. Then let go. As Watts says just needs a reset.

So it’s not faulty unit then because I could take it back to VW and maybe they would replace the unit

Doesn't sound like it but there could be an update to the software. Having said that mine was in for a service a few months back and it still does it. But what phone, computer, tablet etc doesn't have the odd glitch and need a reboot now and then?

There is an update for this. I took mine to vw and they updated it. It has not happened since.

Going to call the dealer tomorrow and ask, also our auto lights are coming on in sun light even though the setting is set to "Late", wonder if this is part of an update to the stereo?

Stereo - definitely get a software update and hope that the "current" version has less faults.

I suspect that they've stopped development of it anyway, faults or no faults.

Tracking issues vs versions is hard though, maybe someone somewhere has done it.

The light sensor.... seems a bit odd, might need the sensor replacing? Its obviously sending a wrong light level.

Re auto lights they do often come on more this time of year and often when the the sun is very low and bright.

Car is booked into the dealer on 8th November to check it out, they did say the auto lights thing could be related to the infotainment system, also there is a recall for the electronic handbrake which will be done, as for this time of the year the lights coming on im not sure thats right because even in the summer is was doing it

Just a little update on this, the car went into VW yesterday, called them today for an update and they advised they have had to order a new infotainment system for the car, wont be getting it back until Monday at earliest, they've also done an update to the electronic parking brake
