So I've had my 68 reg GTI for 2 weeks now covering 600 miles. Petrol light come on so I pulled into a Tesco forecourt ant thought 'I'll give that momentum 99 a go'.
Filled up and straight away the EML came on. Has anyone had any experience of mommentum 99?
Does the 2.0 tsi engine not like 99 Ron fuel?
Do I need to drive it a few miles for the ECU to get use to the higher octane fuel?
Or could it be dirty fuel, maybe that pump doesn't get get used very often?
I don't want to waste a trip to the stealers if it's fuel related
Thanks in advance

I would take it to the dealer, if the light came on straight away after filling up, the 99ron fuel wouldn't even be in the fuel system.

As Mikea said. I've been using Momentum 99 for a couple of years with no issues.

I’ve also used Momentum 99 for a couple of years with absolutely no issues.

Another user of Momentum99 with no issues... you've not got a tuning box or anything fitted have you?
If you know anyone with OBDeleven, you could always run a scan to see what the fault code was but given how new your car is I agree that I would just take it in.

Good point about the old fuel still being in the lines, didn't think of that
Anyone near Runcorn have obd11? If not I'll give VW assist a ring see if they will come out

I would assume the mk7 primes the pump as soon as you open the door, even before the ignition is turned on.
Just take to dealer, that's what they are there for.

Take it straight into the dealer. Was talking to a tech and he recommended only premium fuels as VW are seeing lots of MK6's come in for work doing because of customers using poor quality fuel.
I only ever use V-Power.

VW assist are sending the AA out to me this afternoon, but sods-law just moved the car further back up my driveway to give him more room and the EML has gone out. Touch wood there nothing wrong, I'll let him plug into the OBD see if any faults are stored

Momentum 99 is all my new GTI has had since I picked it up early May. Never had an issue and runs really well.

Interesting had a similar issue with my R recently. Misfiring on cylinder 2 thought it was VW and their spark plug service. Problem solved it self! Filled up again with Tesco 99 seemed to do it briefly again. Tesco Brockworth. Have always used it no issues until now. Maybe its the 10% ethanol thats coming? Instead of 5%

That reminds me - does anyone have lumpy start at low speeds in their R or GTI, especially with DSG?
My new Polo GTI+ DSG is almost kangaroo-like when I leave work and have a 50 yard 5mph crawl out of the works car park. Once I get above 15mph or have done more than 1/4 of a mile all trace of it is gone. My manual Golf R doesn't do it, so unsure if it is a DSG thing or the engine - either as a fault or engine characteristic. Someone else on the Polo forum also has this.
My mpg is way off expectations too - it's just 2mpg better than my R when driven like-for-like on my commute. Much better at motorway speeds on a longer jiurney due yo the higher gearing.
Used Momentum 99, Costco's version and others interchangeably without issue in the R.

Mine is like a kangaroo from cold too, just assumed that it was because of the cold start. Excellent economy though, better than expected.

Although a bit late as a reply, I have always used Momentum 99 fuel since 2013 on both a GTI PP and Golf R. I have had no issues what so ever.

Thanks Watts - can assume it isn't a DSG trait then as your manual PP does it. Never had this on the R. Economy wise, the R's lower gearing does seem better suited to give reasonable economy on my commute - i'm averaging 36mpg in the Polo at 1700 miles in and the last few fill ups have averaged 33mpg. My R dies an easy 33mpg on the same commute. The Polo did average 43mpg on a trip from Newcastle to York, maintaining 80-85mph most of the way - the R is geared way too low to get close to that on a motorway run.
