So I had a small mark from new on the top of the steering wheel that always annoyed me a little on my 7.5. Used to catch the light. Once you'd seen it you can't un-see it!
And my GTI Performance has a very similar mark. Hard to see and get a pic of but clearly a mark on the edge of the aluminium.

Anyone else got a similar mark??

I can't say I'm impressed with the new digital dash, it looks very blurry
-
I've just checked my Mk7 steering wheel and there is no mark there as far as I can tell.
-
Looks like it's in eco mode too, what's that about
-
Sorry, no mark on mine steering wheel by the way.
-
Had this on both of my MK7.5 GTI's
-
Yes have exactly the same on my GTi. Does annoy me and tempted
to try some cleaning products but scared of taking the surface off.
-
Haven't noticed it on my GTD.

And it seems to be wearing a weird sad expression too :undecided:
-
Yep! I have the same mark also!
-
YES - I have this too! As you say: it's in just the right (wrong?) place to constantly remind me of its presence. I almost pondered buying the metal trim piece off the bay and getting it fitted, but if there are lots out there the same....it ould be a lottery.
I wonder if it's some mark made during installation: perhaps the robot or tool that holds the steering wheel during install?
-
Yes my 7.5 GTI has this too. I just assumed it’s to do with how the piece is manufactured
-
Both my 7.5s have this mark.

I'm not alone then!

Odd that it's just a 7.5 thing though (nothing on my mk7) and the steering wheel is identical isn't it? As Dunc says they must have changed the way it is held or something. P.S. I miss my digital dash!

Well come on, this is just too weird, we have to get to the bottom of this somehow. I also have EXCATLY the same mark in exactly the same place on the top of the steering wheel in my 67 plate Mk 7.5 GTI 230 (I had a 14 plate Mk 7 GTD before the GTI and that definitely did NOT have this imperfection on top of the steering wheel).
I had completely assumed that I was just unlucky in having this mark/blemish right in front of my eyes (the rest of the car was spotless when I took delivery) but it clearly must be an actual manufacturing issue.
Very strange...

Could somebody post a clearer picture of the phantom blemish so I can see exactly what this mark is please ?
-
I have it on mine too. Looks like some excess flash in the plastic and then the chrome plating shows it up even more. Must be about 2-3mm, which i imagine shouldn't have got past VW quality for a part that is in line of sight. It is a shame, but i'm learning to live with it.
-
Not on my Mk7. But will now be looking for it when I (eventually) pick up my 7.5!
-
couldn't see it on OP's picture, but now I've spotted it on the steering wheel of my 7.5 gti, it stands out a mile. Maybe it's where the steerings wheels are joined in the moulds, like the little tabs that hold airfix pieces together, when you separate then it leave a little mark

Hee-hee - yeah. I'm a bit embarrassed about two 7.5's in my signature line. Took me all of a month or so to realise I'd bought the wrong car in the 1.4. But better late (into the GTI) than never I guess. Luckily my decision to change coincided with a VW discount campaign on the GTI, so it didn't cost me much at all in the end.
I'm somewhat relieved that the blemish in question is so widespread! I thought it was just my car.

Yup! My 7.5 GTI has this, it annoys the hell out of me every time i see it!
