Hello, fully prepped for the job of changjng my plugs but found the coils tough to remove. Number 1 eventually came free, 2 came out but boot stayed out and 3 and 4 weren’t for shifting. Tried to move the plugs in number 1 but that was going nowhere - 3 different spark plug sockets and a pry bar but no joy.
Have set it all back as it was while I decide whether to have another go or head to the garage.
Any views / tips? Thanks!

I have heard that getting the coil packs off can be tricky and can result in breaking them! This video might help - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HESJEQBFGyI otherwise might be worth getting a good independent to do it.

Did mine in March following the "bit warm" advice, apparently, these coil-packs are much easier to remove when they're hot (on my last 1.4 TSI they were metal ones and it didn't matter). I started like 45min-1hr after shutting off the engine or so, some other surfaces where still pretty hot but all coil packs came out very easily without any boots splitting etc.
If you've put everything back and the car runs fine (no damage on the split coil-pack) I'd just re-try when hot. Seems to work for most people, without even special extraction tools, I simply pulled them out in a decisive but controllable fashion!
Also, did you mean you had issues removing the spark plug in no.1? How come? It's a 16mm socket iirc and they are not tightened too strong.

I've done this on other vehicles in the past and almost always you need the engine "warm" to get them out. You need the engine block itself quite warm, so just quickly turning it on won't cut it...

nightmare off a job! Did mine by filling each sparkplug hole with wd40 and warming engine then they came out easily by twisting and pulling up hard. Ps I broke one coilpack £40 each to replace? the new one came with a coating on the inside of rubber I think it might be high temp grease? :laugh:
