Absolute bastards! Front bumper stolen from my car overnight whilst parked on the drive! Wires and pipe work cut to ease a quick removal. I’m so fu*!ing angry right now it’s untrue
I think I’ve seen this on here before but this serves as a friendly warning to other owners. I heard nothing and all I was left with 10 tori screws that used to hold the bumper in place.
Car will be recovered to a body shop tomorrow and I imagine a hefty bill/claim is going to follow!
-
I’d upload a picture if I could work out how...
-
That's terrible Fewie and yes, exactly that has been reported on here before. If you want to post an image you need to use a hosting site. I use postimage.org. Or if you prefer, pm me and I'll send you my email and I'll post them for you.
-
Used to use photo bucket back in the day. Let me check out your suggestion

That does look rather sorry for itself  Hope you get it sorted soon.
-
WTF? Why? To graft onto a lesser model?
-
Insurance company are recovering it, classed as undriveable. Police gave me a crime number and little else.
It’s needs everything that’s missing, a new grill, headlight washer pipe work and loom repairs for fog lights plus another cut loom which I ain’t sure what it’s for, maybe the headlight washers or ACC?
-
That’s shocking Fewie. Absolute scumbags with no respect for other people’s property.
Hope your car’s back to normal very soon.
-
Strategically put razor blades on underside of new one.Just remember to remove them before servicing or resale.
-
Awful for you, I'd definitely have shed a few tears. Bet you couldn't believe your eyes.
It's Isaac Blue? I'd have thought that was a pretty rare colour if someone was adding to another car, or do we think thy were just after the electric bits?
-
Yeah Isaac Blue so no one is using the bumper to upgrade a base model without paint.
-
That's terrible Fewie
Hopefully you get this sorted quickly. Hopefully whichever toss pots did it get their comeuppance.

Feel your pain. This happened late evening last year. I have a list of parts needed and total cost for the insurance. NOT CHEAP.
My fix was to metal fill the 4 bolts. 2 offside and 2 near. Then park nose forward on the garage.

@Gulfstream11, do you mind telling me how much your claim was? Pm me if you’d prefer
-
What complete and utter scumbags. Some ‘people’ have no respect at all.
I know it’s awful but at least it can be repaired. This is where we all find out how good our insurance companies actually are. Hope it’s sorted asap.
-
PM sent.
-
Utter scumbags.
Bet its a few quid to replace, though not sure why you'd need to PM details of how much claim was. Could just say it was about £2k or something. Not classified information is it?
-
Certainly is'nt. But notified another victim on a different forum and got flamed for talking bullsh1t.. It was a couple of hundred quid shy of 3k.
Had the usual tw4t saying £500 on ebay

Can't believe the alarm doesn't go off when the bumper is removed - it's pretty damn ridiculous that someone can just come along and rip it off leaving your car undriveable.
-
Unreal that this is happening to the UK I know (knew apparently)... No words other than sympathy
-
Gutted for you mate - my only other thought on the other loom is the parking sensors?

I’m sure you’ll be right! In the red mist I forgot about the sensors.

'kin ar$eholes...
Not the same car but this happened to me sometime ago. It.s not just the bumper, all the wires were cut so it was a case of soldering new cables, loom. There was talk on the forums at the time of getting the bolts spot welded to stop them being unscrewed.

Completely agree. If a large part of the car becomes detached while it's locked, seems absurd that there's nothing to warn you.

It’s astonishing a large part of the car can be removed without the need for it to be open! A few fixings under the bonnet could stop this type of sneak theft dead.
-
You'd certainly have thought you'd need the bonnet open to remove the bumper. Which would then trigger the alarm. It's almost worthy of a claim to VW for complete incompetence in design!

I’m not surprised. It’s gotta be around £1500 or maybe more just for a primed bumper, paint and someone to paint the bugger. Then add in all of the other gubbins, labour and recovery I’d say £3k was about right for a stealer job.
Hopefully it get sorted very quickly.

utter scumbags
I once had the covers for the turn left/right signals on my old mk4 'surgically removed' during the night while the car was parked at my girlfriend's driveway. Couldn't sleep for days, broke up with the gal too... Disgusting. Hope you get it sorted

After far too long the car has finally been recovered to body shop. They will conduct an initial assessment tomorrow and inform the insurance company and I of what needs doing.
I’ve read elsewhere online that the 7.5 GTi / GTd bumper is on back order and has been for a while, hope this isn’t true but it may explain the theft in the 1st place. If it is a long wait I’ll have an extended stay in the Vauxhall Adam courtesy car I now have.... 😩😩😩
-
A member on another forum with a mk7 / mk7.5 Golf GTI or GTD (can’t remember which) was recently rear-ended and pushed into the car in front. A new front bumper was one of the parts needed to repair their car and they were also told that GTI / GTD front bumpers are on back order.
-
Update: repairs are authorised by the insurance company, full front bumper assembly with all the ancillaries. Plus a “front loom” and new grill/ACC radar. Been told to expect a 3-4 wait to availability of parts and the need for the body shop to take it to VW for coding after completing the work. In the mean time I have a Vauxhall Adam

Talk about kicking a man while he's down!!!

Not really, the fastest car on the road is a hire/courtesy car that you couldn't car less about. Just like the Peugeot 208 I had in the IOM last week.
