New maps are available if people haven't already downloaded them. Update is version 169.
-
Downloading now...

Silly question but how do I download and install on my mk7.5?
-
Either use the discover care program as shown above or direct download from volkswagen website ( can choose either as both options available on same page)
-
Hope this helps:

Even at 100% download this is painfully slow on a fast connection!
-
Mine has just failed the installation at 92% 3 times now, even when I delete the downloaded zip and let it download again. Still fails, is it just me?
-
It's slow and fails when too many people are trying to download. I've always found it best to download at quiet times ie during the night.
-
I'll try again later then...
-
Getting bored of seeing this now, fourth time it's failed at 92%...

Mine finished first time! Used the VW SD card to rewrite to, no issues!

Mine finished first time the last time I did it and I'm also using the VW SD card that came with the car...
-
Out of storage space?
-
I don't use the discover care program as could never get it to work. I just download the file and unzip with 7zip then transfer over to my SD card (nav pro).
-
Out of storage space?
Shouldn't be, over 60Gb of spare space and only downloading 13Gb.

Here's the log which shows the error I keep getting:

Have you tried downloading the file direct without discover care program? Also make sure your 7zip is up to date.

No but if you post a link I'll happily give it a go...
-
It's on the same page as where you click for the discover care page. Just a bit further down.

Found it, I'm giving the DiscoverCare one more go now and if it fails again I'll download the data myself as you suggest.
-
Finally managed to update my maps after failing last time round.
-
I downloaded the files directly, the whole process using 7Zip took about 20 minutes.
Such a pain, but always good to have European maps up to date in case I ever go beyond the M25. :)
-
As well as maps, do they ever issue new firmware for the units?
-
I gave up with the DiscoverCare option after it failed for the fifth time, did the direct download as suggested by mcmaddy, extracted the data and copied it to the card. Works perfectly
-

only at the stealers
-
Some German websites have firmware downloads on them but to be honest if the unit works properly then leave it alone.
-
Took the direct download route, about 30 minutes to download the zip file. Used a card purchased from Amazon, all good.
Went from this

to

The update on the car took just over an hour.
Edited: Updated 2nd image to show the Sat Nav screen
-
Mine is hopefully getting done as we speak.
Don't use it a lot but last week it was like I had set it to use B roads only!!!
-
The last time I did this update it broke my internet!  :embarrassed:

Just updated to the 2018 map.
I now need to re-install speed camera POI's, have always used the instructions below, but unfortunately the link now longer works, does anyone have a new link?
STEPS
1. Get/Download the POI database for each camera type in .csv format (Garmin) - (i.e. Gatso, SPECS, Redlight, Mobile etc,) from whatever source. I am a PGPSW member and use
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras&referer=SideBar
2. Then go to this VW website :
http://rollout.volkswagen.de/content/de/brand/de/navigation/discover-pro/poi-listen-sammlung.html
3. Click on the orange "Neue POI........" link
4. Fill in the sections on the page that appears - and make sure you tick the box that says "Bei Annäherung an diese POIs informieren".
This is for audible alerts. The third section is for the name of the POI category - so UKGATSO or UK REDCAMERA or UKSPECS etc... depending on the .csv file you are about to upload. The fourth (bottom) section is to upload the image you want to appear on the SatNav - so make sure you have downloaded suitable images for each camera type from the threads on here (see a few posts up).
5. Upload each .csv file for each camera category and upload the image using the "choose file" button on the VW website and the "Jetzt Laden" button in the bottom right corner of the page
6. Repeat for each category of speed camera by using the "Weitere POI ..... " button in the bottom left of the list page which appears after you have clicked the "Jetzt Laden" button in 5 above. Make sure you tick the "Bei Annäherung an diese POIs informieren" box for all camera types.
7. Once you have uploaded the full set of camera types then click on the orange "POI-Sammlung sichem" button on the bottom right of the list page - POI Sammlung page. You are then about to download the VW POI package so think of a name for the file - UKCAMS or something.
8. Download the zip file after ticking the boxes.
9. Transfer the contents of the zip file onto a freshly formatted SD card. The root directory should have one file (metainfo2.txt) and one directory (PersonalPOI). The personal POI directory should have three sub directories (MIB###).
10. Insert the SD card into the left hand SD slot in the glove box and keep the SatNav SD card in the right hand slot.
11 Press SatNAv on your unit.
12 Go to Manage Memory button and then the "Update POI" button. The system should then update from the SD card and add them to the Satnav.
13 Then finally go to Maps button in your SatNAV and the drill down through the POI button to select the POI you have just downloaded. Make sure they are ticked. The list is in alphabetic order so best to name the camera types with the same starting letters - UK##### so that they appear together.
Its not as hard as it all sounds !! Good luck.

Found the same problem myself. Annoying that the Germans seem to think changing the contents of a page, and leaving the address exactly the same, is OK! This has happened before, but I managed to find the POI coding page that time. Had a long session searching this time, but got nowhere. I’ve settled for putting the camera sites on via CarNet. The downside with this is that, despite having all the Nav settings correct, I get now warning sounds. Anyone know how this can be done?
I have updated the Nav data to the latest and found that it more than put right the shortcomings of the last issue. That version, for some reason, decided that the fastest route to Tadcaster from Scarborough is round the North side of York, rather than the South, which is obviously daft. Thankfully, this version now recommends the South side along with a few other more sensible routings. Gives me a bit more faith in the Nav systems routing, when I don’t know where I’m going.
.....and before anyone calls me crackers for just blindly following the Sat Nav, when I knew it to be wrong, I didn’t, I use it for traffic information, even though it’s not best at that, but mostly for ETA.
-
Thanks … just used car-net and it worked first time. Happy days!

When you say worked, can you get the POI alarm to sound? I could, using the German site/SD card method, but, no matter what I do, I cannot using CarNet. The sound doesn’t give enough warning for most speed cameras, but it does remind you that they are there and, anyway, I like things to work properly!
-
Using the built in Nav system's POI alert for speed cameras is rubbish.
You are virtually on top of the camera and it just goes "bong" very quietly.
Forget that, use Waze (via androidauto) or slap on a in car sat nav unit.... or just pay attention and drive at the speed limits (near a camera)

Yes, yes, but it's better than nothing (just)! Got used to scanning the screen for symbols, out of the corner of my eye, on the 300 yard setting. I'm Apple, so waiting to try Waze after the September iOS update.
-
Waze is REALLY good, because the speed camera audio alerts only trigger when you are over the speed limit and the database is online so no fiddly updates. Plus the speed camera detections and other warnings occur even when its no in nav mode.
The Nav itself is really good too - definitely the fastest way to get A to B but also doesn't make stupid diversions around traffic like the VW one does.
Definitely get straight on that update, you'll love it!

I can confirm no POI alarm bing anymore.

Hi guys,
Long term browser but finally joined to ask for some advice on my sat nav. Have a 67 plate GTI 7.5 pp - last week drove to Glasgow airport and as i drove through fields rather than the M8 decided to update maps. Now wish i hadnt bothered!
So I have the Discover Pro with an SD card. I backed up the VW one to my computer then tried the Discover Care - kept on failing. Then tried the download and realised that the download was 25gb which is bigger than the 16gb VW card. Therefore bought a new card and tried that. Unzipped straight to SD card.
When i plug it into the car it comes up "Software Update Data is available", if i go to settings and click update software it says "Error: no data available. Please insert a source with software update or check the source". Now i think i may have buggered the navigation and this is me trying to update the actual system firmware but i cant see any option to install the maps anywhere
Final nail in the coffin is if i put the original backed up maps on the VW SD card and put this in the car and press Nav - it simply has a map of Europe with a message saying "Navigation Database not available".
I really feel like i have broken it and dont know what to try next. I am having another go downloading through the Discover Care on the VW card but from what i have read it rarely works so not hopeful.
Does anyone have any advice - sorry for long message. I have some pics of the screens if that helps.
-
If you've got nav pro then you won't have a VW supplied SD card so it sounds like you have discover navigation. Maybe check what unit you have and then download the relevant update. Also when copying files make sure you have the correct file structure or it won't detect the update.
-
Yes, this ^^^.
Discover Pro data will not work with Discover Nav. Your backup should still work, though, so make sure that you have replaced it onto the VW supplied card properly.
There are options for only downloading Western Europe, which will fit onto the VW supplied card. Only the VW supplied card will work with the system.

I did see similar comments so maybe I have it wrong. I have the bigger screen, with touchscreen style buttons. I have a friend with the 'older' sat nav with a smaller screen and buttons. I assumed that the pro is the one I have. From the VW download site I am downloading the one that looks like my sat nav.
Is the unit just an updated version but not the pro one ? Thanks for quick replies
-
well spotted guys looks like i have been downloading the wrong one time after time - i assumed the newer looking touchscreen thing was the pro but i still have the volume dials so clearly wrong - now downloading the 12gb version and fingers crossed it works on stick in the morning
Thanks again
-
If you have an VW SD card with the nav data on it (ie you only have one spare slot for music) then you have basic nav...
-
Thanks guys all sorted this morning - much appreciated
-
Mines still on the original maps that came with the car from new, always found it such a pain in the arse to update so I use Waze instead.
