Title: Another proud new owner
Post by: weytf on 05 June 2018, 10:36
I know, I know... we've all seen a Golf before! But I'm not the sort to post this kind of thing on Facebook, so I need to share it SOMEWHERE!

Arrived this morning. Non PP GTI, White, Dynaudio. Be still my heart!

7 Whole miles...

Delivered dirty. Has clearly been left in the rain. Still a handsome brute though!

Nice butt.

Out with the 'old', in with the new. Will miss you, Klaus!

That's the lot. Thanks for indulging me!

Lovely, congratulations! I've wrote before that I think the GTI (as opposed to the R) gained a lot from the FL aesthetic changes, a more dynamic/mean look that suits it well. Saw a white one the other day that affirmed that thought. I can only forgive the lack of PP in this because it's a 3-door and they're a (nice) rare sight   Enjoy!

agree....nice to see a GTI with the right number of doors

and also agree, the FL changes have really suited the GTI, and I think that Red and White show off the changes the most. So, good choice mate :)

PS, Dynaudio, is it really worth it ? I think the standard systems sounds brilliant, so Dynaudio must be out of this world :)

I've only gone for a brief drive as I'm still at work, so haven't fully tweaked the settings on the audio yet. BUT - it's better than the standard on the Merc, I can say that for sure. Will need to feed the subwoofer tonight and see what it spits out ;)

As for non-pp... I didn't really think that I could justify the added cost of the pp in the long run. 230hp is plenty, and I can't really see myself noticing a difference of ~%6. I certainly don't think I'd notice the addition of the diff either!

As for it being 3 door... not having kids does have its perks ;)

My youngest kid is 13 so he can climb in the back easily enough.

I also bought a non performance and yes it's plenty fast enough :)

My plan all along was to spend the least as poss ie no extras but then spend that saved money on some decent lightweight alloy wheels and better tyres :) so that's exactly what I've done.

And I also bought some gloss black mirror caps, that's made a nice difference.

I'm really very tempted to get some mirror caps... You're right, that stuff goes so well with white or red. Also tempted with the idea of wrapping the roof in black, but it's a lease! Surely it can't be THAT hard to take a wrap off of a roof?

3 doors...

weytf.....yeah, Im thinking the same, I fancy a black gloss roof, and the roof spoiler completely wrapped. This is how the new Golf TCR is,

and yes, its easy to remove a roof wrap, I've done that with my last car, no problem..

Hmmm... I'm now seriously considering it. What do you think, Jeff? I think I prefer the spoiler partially wrapped:

OR

Also, do you think it's worth getting them to wrap the mirrors, rather than buying covers? That way you ensure a perfect match.

I personally think wrap the whole spoiler like the Golf TCR,

And yes, not a bad idea to get the mirror caps wrapped, if thats possible ?

They're fairly easy to get on and off, just be careful not to smash the mirror glass, but I managed it OK.

The mirror caps I bought were about £30 from Ebay. They took 3 weeks to arrive as they came from China, so that's another reason to get yours wrapped, who wants to wait three weeks :)

by the way....I think the best and first mod should be an Eibach Pro Kit.

This has made such a difference, 20mm lower at the front, 15mm lower at the back, so not only does it make the wheel arch gap look "right", it also gives it a slight front down stance, so IMO looks much better than it did.

The kit cost £150 from Amazon, and I paid £140 to a local garage to fit it, and just yesterday I paid £65 for 4 wheel alignment. So not too bad for the improvement.

It still rides fine btw.

I'll post some pics of my car soon...

I'm pretty sure that would be a trickier one to allow the car to turn up at its first service with! I'm going to limit to only the purely (reversible) cosmetic when it comes to mods. I definitely want to see how it looks though, bet it makes a world of difference - especially with the new wheels!

dont worry about the service, it's not a problem, and tbh it's not that extreme, it just makes it look right, rather than like a monster truck

Nice one weytf, looks great and I'd vote for the black roof and mirror caps too. Get them to wrap the caps, they might do them at a good price at the same time as the roof. I had my caps wrapped and they were great until a lorry removed one  As for the spoiler, I think it looks good as above with a bit of white showing, very smart

Funnily enough, I've just put my new wheels on today, and I've decided that I prefer the Red mirror caps.

It's because the wheels are like dark grey/graphite colour and they didn't seem to match with the gloss black mirror caps.

Any pictures yet of the new wheels Jeff?

Hi. Yes I've started a new thread in Readers Rides or whatever it's called

Congrats on your new car! Looks great. I like the double red line in the headlights on the facelift. I think the mirrors would suit black. I got mine wrapped, but that acutally cost more than replacment black caps, but I didn't know that at the time.

I found that the cheap mirror caps from China do fit, but not as nicely as the originals, so tbh probably better getting them wrapped.

If you're worrying about the Eibach Pro Kit springs being a problem, you shouldn't - I've fitted the Eibach Sportline springs and it's been in and out of the dealer numerous times without issue.

+1 to this.

I’ve even had the inspection videos sent through where they have inspected the Eibachs and told me that they are in good condition.

Just got quoted £200 for the roof+mirrors combined. What do we think?
Title: Re: Another proud new owner

That's fair enough...just make sure it's the best stuff..Avery I think it's called. Also see what they intend to do about the antenna ?? Ie remove and refit or cut around it?

Ps..i don't know what would be best though...

Potentially odd question: Is it just me, or is the distance setting for ACC backwards? The way the graphic reads suggests that 1 highlighted bar would be the furthest distance, but in reality it's the closest? Am I just reading it wrong?

Yeah, doesn't really make sense but yes 1 bar is closest and the one I use as its still far enough away.
