Ordered an R line on Saturday 1.5tsi Audi S1 was too thirsty!!!!
-
Spec tornado red with led front and led rears with sweeping indicators active dash and a panoramic sunroof and 18" alloy with badge delete. Barnetts vw of St Andrews are sending a Oettinger rear spoiler painted in the colour of the car.
-
Good spec. I thought about the R Line, but by the time i'd added all the extra kit i wanted the price worked out more expensive than the GTD that already had everything as standard. :undecided:
-
Sounds good, not far off R money though I bet....
-
Yeh i know but went for the look and a bit more economy, had a 14 plate GTD prior to the S1 and loved both those cars. It's a shame the stick the diesels get, i'll probably stick a pedal box on it great bit of kit.
-
Sounds great but seriously hope you didn’t pay the £30k+ list price....
-
I looked at an R-line but when I added a few options it was into GTI money. VW don't seem to have marketed the Golf R-line in same way as, say, the Roc R-line. You don't see many on the road. Probably because they don't want to take sales away from the GTI.
-
Congrats golfhappy and welcome back to being happy with a Golf!
But...
An S1 is a very desirable and fun car that’s pretty good on fuel still. You already own the S1 so the initial depreciation has had its hit already and it should be a much steadier depreciation from here on in. I’d imagine they hold their value very well to due to rarity.
Would the likely depreciation of the R-Line not massively outweigh any fuel savings, plus be a lot less fun to drive?
The R-Line is a handsome car, but it’s no S1.

No didn't pay list, the S1 is a cracking little car, well built fast. Had it for a year and a half fancied a change. Did look at the bargain 3 door GTD at GTI World and thought nah....i'll spec something up with most of the toys....had to have those darn led lights. Took early retirement as well so just wanted to knock the costs of running the car. When i take the XR2 out it is amazing on fuel.
-
The 7.5 R with the 7 Speed DSG is quite good on fuel if you're not going 'all in'. I'm sure the 7 Speed GTI is the same. Mid to late 30's mpg.
I'm sure you'll enjoy the R-Line, you might end up missing the power in the long run but I guess each to their own.
I'm looking at getting the wife a Leon FR 1.4t for work, they seem to get great mpg and can be had for great money second hand. The three door is a good looking car, shame the dash looks so bland.
-
congrats on the new car - got my own 3 weeks back, near identical specs, tornado red, dsg, pan sunroof, front leds - it's got cracking looks that body kit, the interior is a joy and fine, no GTI fast but fast enough and more economical by one third compared to my mk6 gti. Having owned mk4, 5, 6, 7 and 7.5 I got to say this is the most dazzling of all in nearly all aspects. I guess if you miss the extra hp you can always punch it up a bit with revo or something...

I am seeing more and more R-Lines on Cheshire roads these days. Maybe I have started to notice them, and Golf in general, since I ordered by GTI PP in April.
As for the 1.4 TFSI engine in the Leon, it's a great engine in many ways. I have driven an A4 for two years with this engine, and averaged 38mpg in almost exclusively rush hour traffic. I only drive about 7k per year.
The 1.4 has a decent amount of punch, and can feel genuinely quick in the right conditions like a fast A-road, dual carriageway or motorway.
However, it can be caught out, and feel flat and sluggish at times. Typically pulling out from any junction on an incline. Then the weight of the A4, which is about that of a current Golf, really tells and the car crawls forwards. Only when the revs finally rise to about 1500 does it jump forward.
This can be alarming at roundabouts etc with a car bearing down on you. So, I have adjusted my driving style to cope, slipping the clutch and building revs first.
However, even that fails sometimes if the incline is too much, then the revs die and the car bogs down. Maybe this is less of an issue with a DSG, but that was not an option on the A4 1.4 TFSI in early 2016.
Have to say though that the engine is very refined for something so small. Superb compared to our 2.0 diesel Touran (17 plate), and way better than my colleagues 4 cylinder petrol A class Merc which really sounds rough when revved!

Ah least with the R-Line you can impersonate an R quite easily....

Hasn't felt sluggish tbh. When in Eco mode yes, it does what you say and it takes some more time to gather pace - when driving in Sport mode though, whole different proposition - it picks up pace real fast. I've learned to use different modes when in different areas of the city and i must say i'm very pleasantly surprised by how punchy this 1.4L engine feels like. Again, certainly not GTI fast but fast enough.

VW should put the 190bhp petrol engine in the R-line. I suspect the reason they haven't is that it would be too close to the GTI.
-
And proper led headlights not the cheap ones like in the standard golf if r-line is to be similar level to s-line Audi

We know the difference. But VW don’t. Over on VWROC ancouple of Rs have R-line bumpers fitted in error. Question is, what else?
-
Yeh that looks like an R! i'll buy a pedalbox, see DTUK have like a premium looking one £10 dearer and i'll go for that one me thinks. And yes i know it's hidden in the glove box, i'm more thinking about the connectors. The last one i had i had to butcher it to get it to clip in.

Ordered an R line on Saturday 1.5tsi Audi S1 was too thirsty!!!!
You wont be disapointed - they are a great car :) I also have the GTI PP but i drive the 1.5tsi evo most days and it gives me circa 53 mpg I just love the package. I have it in white with climate screen, upgraded 18" alloys and i put the integral towbar with the release handle in the boot; i couldn't force myself to put a bar on the GTI
Oh and I'm confused, why I people talking about the 1.4tsi i thought that was the old engine - this is the new 1.5tsi :)
-
got the 1.4 tsi engine with 150hp output. I know there's a new 1.5 but seems this was not an option in Cyprus at the time of ordering back in February. No complaints though, it is a lovely piece of engineering all around
