Mk7 GTD looking to get the CRD3 to play alongside my pedalbox
If you have or had please give me your views as tomorrow i plan to purchase and at a fair expense want to make sure its worth it before i dive in

Been in my friends vrs many times with a pedal box and tuning box, it really packs a punch and actually feels quicker than my gti pp, its not but it gives that impression...he has just taken it off on thursday as he has bought a bmw 330i so if you would consider a used I could let him know.

Got one 6 months into ownership back in 2014 after being underwhelmed by the MK7 GTD's apparent performance (felt a lot slower than the Scirocco 170TDI it replaced due to very linear acceleration). I had previously tried out a TDI-Tuning box which was horrible in fuelling and power delivery. I took another look at boxes, and tried DTUK, they were localish, to try before I bought - I was sold! It transformed the car, marginally quicker than a 230ps GTI PP in gear (although not off the line, due to tramping even more so than stock), tons of in gear torque. It pulled in 6th like stock does in 4th. DPF regen frequency halved, and mpg was not noticeably affected at all (when not pushing on, mpg is exactly as it is when stock).
Ran it about 18 months (including testing out the newer version) and then was thoroughly annoyed with my Bridgestone shod GTD's tendency to tramp and got an R.
The box passed to my Dad and he has thoroughly enjoyed it for 88k miles. About a month ago, my Dad's GTD has started having issues, going into limp mode and lots of dash lights. Those issues disappear with the box off. Not sure whether recent VW covert updates when in for servicing mean that the ECU is no longer fooled by its presence, or whether there is an underlying issue that the box aggravates (e.g. DPF significantly filling up with incombustible ash, clogging up far too easily), or perhaps even that the software/firmware of the box is corrupt and needs a reflash.
My Dad really misses the box, so next time he's up, he'll be after a reflash, just to be sure there's no way back to using it again without issue. If I had a GTD and I could be sure that VW wouldn't know I had one to put my warranty at risk, i'd have another one in a shot. No clutch worries, unlike the GTI and R, VW seem to have some margin on the GTD's clutch to handle the extra torque.

I have both tuning and pedal box on my gti and they are both fantastic. Not only does the car respond so much better, pull in the mid range is much more impressive as well.

This is the issues i have been reading about and get the feeling tgat should they arise your pretty much on your own where dtuk are concerned - i shouldnt like to think thats the case as ive always found them fab but then ive not gone back to them with an issue so perhaps its a different reception when complaining ?
My car eill be out of warranty in Sept next year so also wary of leaving a 'mark' perhaps vw are wise to these boxes like u say and software updates cause issues - is the way around this to twll them at service NOT to update any software ? This was what i had to do with the mini but it had had an ECU map done so easipy cleared hence why i would rather have the dtuk as i wouldnt have thot any vw updates would have caused issuea

What you've said in your first paragraph Jeni is spot on. Absolutely fine when taking your money but totally different if you have an issue. A few other members on here have had issues with the customer service. You should probably check Seat and Skoda forums too.

Its whether i just be patient wait for warranty ending Sept 19 and get a proper remap on the ecu 🙄

A proper remap will always be better than a tuning box but it all depends what remap and by who?

Sept 2019 is light years away!
It’s a fair old wait if you’re hankering after extra power in the here and now.
Chances are the car might not be with you that long if it’s not hitting the spot for performance.
I’d fit the CRDT now and look into remapping later if you still thought it necessary.
Get a second hand CRDT to keep costs down and sell it on if you fancy a remap down the line. That way it’ll have cost you very little for the fun it provides.
