I currently have a 2014 GTD with a reversing camera.
I have put a deposit down on a 2016 estate as I love the car, but am desperate for the extra space. This new car doesn’t have a camera, I am trading mine in and they haven’t asked about options and a price is agreed.
How hard, and will it infact fit the estate. I am thinking I can buy a standard badge/lock setup and stick on the old car. Then once I have the new estate stick the camera. I imagine I require additional hardware and then of course VCDS to turn it on.
But is it doable? I imagine that the badge/camera is the expensive part.

It’s about £250-300, you need to Remove all the trim from the boot and some inside the car to run wires an connect up behind the mmi and fuse box, you’ll also need a few wiring mods done in the boot to get the old latch to work,
Plus you have to program the new mmi so the screen changes when in reverse,
It took me about a hour to run the lion but I fit stuff to cars so I know roughly how cars come apart

Also not all media units support camera (at least with MIB1 discover medias only some support reversing camera)

If the camera in your current car is factory fitted, the chances are the wiring harness will be an integral part of the cars loom. Each car has it's own bespoke wiring loom dependent on spec. The retro fit kits come with a aftermarket wiring harness designed to virtually plug and play.
Whist you may be able to reuse the camera, you will probably need to buy the aftermarket loom.

If you have a factory order and the build week isn't confirmed, I'd add the camera to the new car.
Far bloody easier and cheaper.

Yes this is a second hand car.
Selling my 2014 Hatch for a 2016 estate, purely as I need the space. The sad thing is, my 2014 was well equipped. The 2016 is missing Dynaudio and rear camera. Has a lot of other options mine has now like keyless etc, but it also has panoramic sunroof, which I am excited about.
What improvements were made between 2014 and 2016?
Anyway, I will call a few places and get some quotes for them to do the work. Does anyone know anyone else in North Yorkshire?
