Title: Rear bumper reflectors
Post by: DCVH007 on 25 April 2018, 05:10
Hi... would like to change the red reflectors in the rear bumper on mark 7 performance pack. Car is black, so figure smoked would look better. Has anyone done this? Have any pics? Any idea where i can source from and how easy a change it is? Thanks

You won't find any for sale as the whole point of red reflectors is that they reflect red. People have done this before with tinting film. However, it is illegal. It's extremely unlikely that you will get stopped for it, but if someone does run into the back of you, their insurance could use it as a get out.

I think the R ones are actually slightly darker in appearance.  When I changed my rear lights to R ones I put a very light tint on the top brake light and the rear reflectors.

No problems with MOT etc, don't think they perform any differently to be honest but the insurance point could be a valid one...

MOT manual says:

Quote
1. Check that the required numbers of reflectors are:

 a. fitted

Note: The precise position of obligatory rear reflectors is not part of the inspection, but check visually that they are at about the same height and the same distance from each side of the vehicle.

 b. are not obscured
 c. in good working order
 d. red in colour.

This is how mine look, the tint still means they're red just not as vibrant in colour.
