Yes, other forum members have. Always worth trying the forum ‘search’ function, as little mods like changing bulbs to LEDs are likely to have been done before. A search on ‘LED boot light’ found these;

A small point, which applies to all of the "solutions" linked above, is that replacing the standard incandescent bulb in the boot with a basic led equivalent will result in the led being dimly lit, even when the hatch is closed. Certainly not enough current draw to be a problem for the car, short term anyway, but not as it should be. I have seen suggestions that fitting a "canbus safe" led bulb will fix this, but I have no proof of this, or examples of suitable bulbs.

It will not drain the battery - unless you don't use it for months and months. The standard bulb also draws very little current when it's off but we are talking µA here for either. If you fit an error-free LED (for monitored lights - which the interior ISN'T) you'd just create quite a lot of heat when it's on needlessly.

A simple 4k7 or 5k5 resistor across the contacts will do the trick to stop the very dim glow.....

Try Superskoda for boot lights as I would have thought the Octavia ones would fit the Golf.

I've used them before and they are very good and delivery is prompt.

That's about ten times the price I paid for mine..... including the modification of the bulb holder so it doesn't glim.
