Title: Top up oil - Mk 7.5 GTI 230
Post by: CarbonGTD on 28 February 2018, 09:19
Yes I had a quick look in the manual first but failed miserably I'm afraid.

Does anyone know off-hand whether the correct top up oil to use in new Mk 7.5 GTI 230 is the 'old' Castrol Edge Longlife III 5W-30 or should it be the new 0W-20?

I would personally just go and buy 1l from the dealer.

Very rare I would tell anybody to go to the dealer. But on a brand new car I would (and will be) going and getting the genuine VW stuff. At least you know its exactly the right stuff too as its not just about the W rating, there are lots of minor sub ratings too.

VW dealers will sell you the same Castrol oil just at a higher profit margin. Find out from your service or parts department what you need and buy it elsewhere.

I actually found my local dealer was selling the top up sized bottle cheaper than I could buy it anywhere else actually...

Probably cheaper if you buy a big old can of the same oil from somewhere else, but top up size they couldn't be beaten...
