Hi all
Firstly great to find this forum! Ordered a new Golf GTI 5dr DSG :-
Tornado red
18”Parker wheels
Red Jacara cloth
Rear view camera
Lane assist including dynamic light assist
Side airbag system rear
Heat insulating tinted glass 90%
Climate windscreen
Dynamic chassis control
Chose the 230bhp version, have a sports car for even more thrills. Always admired GTI’s now at last i’m joining the club. Car has a confirmed build week (12th March) and dealer reckons should be in my hands by 2nd week April - can’t wait!!

Welcome
So going by thread title, this is your first Golf? I doubt you'll be disappointed. What is it replacing?
-
Thank you for the welcome!
Bit complicated - I have a Volvo V40 D4 for my 40 mile each way commute, She Who Must Be Obeyed runs a Honda Jazz. She retired 18 months ago and I retire shortly so trading both in for the GTI. Golf will be our daily car and we run a Boxster for fun and sun days
Yes, our first Golf, nearly bought one on several occasions but for one reason and another never signed on the dotted until now. Surprising really driven on several occasions, always impressed and really looking forward to getting one finally.

Great choice and you will love the GTi.
Did you conider upgrading the wheels to 19s? The standard Parkers are more than a bit yuk!
-
Could go on and on with options as with most German cars, yes the 19” wheels are great but had to draw the line somewhere. Didn’t want to risk making the ride any firmer (hence DCC) SWMBO very sensitive to overly hard ride so decided to stay with the standard 18”
-
That’s why I switched to the Seville.
Stick with 18, avoided the white worm Parkers and still added DCC
-
Have you tried a car on 18s without DCC? The ride really is very good and so good that I dont really think you need the DCC.
-
DCC just adds that bit extra choice in my opinion.
-
Lots of different opinions on here about wheels, and DCC for that matter. There is no right or wrong, just buy what you're happy with.

Good choice Auld Yin!.Love my rear camera and heated front screen.I don't think you'll need that much way down on the South Coast mind.Helps with the demisting as well mind.
If i remember rightly EVO magazine recommended DCC on 19" rims.So you should be well safe on 18".
Welcome to the Golf Club.

Thank you all for the welcome and advice, much appreciated.
Hadn’t thought about the 18” Seville wheels, yes they look great and the red pinstripe would look good with the tornado red. I’m guessing now the build date is confirmed and only three weeks away the spec is probably “locked” by now.
Most of the options are for SWMBO’s benefit, she chose tornado red, (I took a liking to white silver) she prefers automatic hence DSG; I would probably gone manual for greater interaction, although we have PDK on the Boxster which is a similar double clutch auto-box. As mentioned earlier she is very sensitive to a firm ride, so to avoid any risk of it being too firm we opted for DCC, although the demo car we drove didn’t have it and ride was excellent. Rear seat airbag system is to provide maximum safety for grand-sprogs. We live in the New Forest with unlit roads and free roaming ponies and cattle so the best lights are essential - hence dynamic lights. We have a reversing camera on the Volvo and it’s great so we included it. I like the idea on the Golf where the camera is located behind the tailgate badge keeping it clean, the Volvo’s isn’t and any wet weather the lens becomes dirty and blind. We nearly chose the keyless entry but there are doubts over security of the system - never had it on previous cars so I guess what we’ve never had we won’t miss.
My son came with me when we tried the GTI - he was so impressed he has also ordered one! (Indium grey, 3 door manual). He had his mind set on a Skoda Octavia VRS, which on paper is cheaper but on PCP very little difference due to the much higher residual value of the Golf. So shortly two GTI’S in the dreamcar family!!

Enjoy, did your son get the performance pack?

No son and heir has ordered the standard GTI, same as me but 3 door manual.
