Hi Guys, This is my first post on the forum even though i have had a 2013 White GTI PP for almost 3 years. I ve gone and px it in against a 2017 Tornado red Clubsport  The question is on my PP came with a spare wheel however the CS has Dynaudio and a subwoofer so no spare wheel. The question is if i keep the spare wheel from my PP or get hold of a new spare wheel, will the subwoofer fit in it??? Thanks for the help!

Hi and welcome to the forum.Good choice of new car!.I thought the Clubsport had a spacesaver as standard but i may well be mistaken. :embarrassed:
My GTD has Dynaudio with the subwoofer in the boot and a space saver wheel. So i would imagine your GTI wheel would fit in ok if there isn't one.
PS.I know nothing....

I thought the factory fit dynaudio sat inside the 18” spare wheel and the retro fit plug and play one removed the spare wheel?
The edition 40 clubsport should have come with a space saver too.
-
My dynaudio sub slots into the spare wheel, something doesn’t seem right here. Can you take a picture of it so we can have a look?

Wasn’t there a VW accessories retrofit version manufactured by Helix for the mk7 Golf that fitted in the spare wheel space, but you lost the spare wheel if you had it fitted? Maybe the Clubsport that the OP is buying has this fitted.
There’s one here for sale on eBay. The pictures show it in the spare wheel well with no spare wheel.

Yes, you loose the spare wheel completely with the Helix P&P.... it's quite a sizeable unit.
-
And if the car’s got the retro-fit Helix (or similar) sub, the tweeter speaker grilles in the A pillars are unlikely to have the Dynaudio logo on them.
-
Hi guys, it is definitely a dynaudio system it has the badging on the A pillars and sound amazing! My suspicion is that the dealer has removed it for another car as they are the only owner of the car. It was registered March last year used as the managers car used for a few months got to just over 4000 miles and then stored until now. They also have another Tornado red this time 5dr DSG with less then 5k on it to for sale too! Going to speak to the dealer tomorrow and will point out take as it is as new and that as their own online advert states it comes with one it should have one! should pick it up at the weekend and will take some pictures for you. Thanks guys!

Hi I know it's been said but I have a 2016 Gti I specced the dynaudio system for mine and as above my subwoofer sits inside the upside down space saver

Same with mine too:

Just like mine in the 2016 Gti...

same as my 2015 build estate...
You get a "skinny" 19inch (I think) rim space saver...
You can't fit the Dynaudio sub into a smaller rim....you can fit it so the tub fits into a 17inch rim but then even with the longest screw from VW you can't locate the lot together....& you have to have the floor on high...mind you I leave mine on high....I did look into using the sub with a full width 225mm tyre/alloy......might have to revisit...
-
I have a CS40, with Dynaudio, and can confirm I also have a space saver with the sub inside - same as in the previously posted pictures. I assume it's 19" as per my Prets.
And I'm very grateful for it too as it's already been used when I had a puncture...
-
Space saver is 18", at least the one in image above is.
Afaik the Golf came either with 16 or 18" space saver. GTD, GTI and R should have the latter. My GT had the 16", assuming that's because it came with 17" wheels.

I think it's mainly to do with what brakes it needs to fit over, remember you can't fit 16" rims to a PP/R.
Just a thought - if the rolling radius of the standard wheels on a GTI is the same as that of a base model (and bearing in mind how skinny a space saver is), how tall must the profile of tyre be on the base model 16" space saver. Think about a GTI (non PP) on 16's - now that's going to be a tall tyre. Then reduce the width of the rim by around a half. Now that's a high profile tyre!! I know the sidewall would be the same height, but the aspect ratio must be astronomical!
This of course assumes that they do 16" space savers and the rolling radius is the same.
As I said, just a thought...

From the ERWIN documents there are only two sizes of skinny spare tyre for the MK7 Golf
3.5J x 18 rim, 125/70R18 tyre
or
3.5J x 16 rim, 125/70R16 tyre
so the rolling radius is different.....
but in the ETKA list the world wide spare list has:-
6Jx15
6Jx16
6.5Jx16
But the Dynaudio sub will only fit in the 3.5J x 18 rim, 125/70R18 tyre....
