Title: New 18 plate
Post by: ponzo on 03 February 2018, 20:29
Hi all,

I ordered a MK 7.5 GTI back in early November 2018 and have just received an update that its arrived in the UK. I imagine it'll reach the dealer within the next week.

Is it worth picking the car up now with a 67 plate, or asking if the dealer can delay until the new 18 plate in 3 weeks time?

Is an 18 plate really worth the wait...?

Thanks!

No!
I picked mine up yesterday and I haven't stop grinning.
It might be worth £300/400 more in a couple of years if it's a 18 plate but depends how long you're keeping it.
Enjoy now, it's worth it.

Life's too short.  It will still be the same car, just 3 weeks older.

I'd wait a few weeks and get it registered as an 18 plate. Not being a plate snob or anything but purely from a resale value point of view.

I'd wait because I am a plate snob  When I got mine on a 15 plate it was an ex-demo and I picked it up the day before the 65 plates were out, it was rather annoying

By the time its arrives at your dealers, if say sometime next week perhaps, then it has its PDI etc surely you are only talking about a week or two max to 1st March

Be crazy to rush registration before IMO.

If it was me and I was leasing, I’d have it as soon as it was available (on a 67 plate). If I was buying, as March is less than a month away, I’d wait for an 18 plate for the slightly better resale value when the time comes to sell.

May as well wait now, only 3 weeks to 1st March. February isn't the best month to be driving around in a shiny new motor - it won't stay shiny for very long.
