Title: Cracks, bangs and pops.
Post by: ed30James on 02 February 2018, 18:23
I love some exhaust noise and my edition 40 was just perfect with the cracks, bangs and pops on the overrun. However it seems to have become far far quieter and less regular....

So does the exhaust have the ability to degrade/change and thus i’ll never have those amazing noises back, has the electronic trickery stopped asking for the noises or have I’m become deafened by the noises and my ears are to blame?

Lastly after some spirited driving the exhaust would almost tick tock, tick tock whilst the car sat turned off on my drive. Has that changed things/should it do that as it cools down....?

Any help appreciated.

The ticking cooling down after spirited is totally normal.

I have a theory that a new, and therefore totally clean, exhaust is more resonant and "live" than one that has been through a good few heat cycles and got it's internals covered in a coat of soot.

If I'm right, that would account for less ticking on cooling, as well as less pops and bangs when driving.

There’s a new Remus system for the clubsport I would be interested to see what it’s like. Can be resonated or non resonated or switchable so lots of option to get the sound you want.

The exhaust on my CS is also slightly disappointing, it was a used car when I bought it so have no idea if it was better when new. I would prefer something slightly louder,  might look into that Remus.

No theory about it, you are 100% correct. When I first put my Remus Quad on I thought I had made a huge mistake from the noise it was making under load and the cooling down pings were really loud. A few hundred miles later after carbon had built up it mellowed down to exactly what I had expected.

Which did you get as they do resonated and non resonated and also a one without a rear silencer too.

Resonated, with carbon insert tail pipes.

Didn't want to go full system because I didn't want the volume all the time or risk drone (been there done that and never again). So pleased that I went the way I did ...... after it settled down.

Sorry, I'm not sure, it was a week after I got the car in 2014, I can't remember what happened yesterday.
