Just a quick question please.
I have a Golf R estate on order. Currently in transit according the tracker. Having second thoughts and tempted by an m140i. Don’t want this to turn in to an R vs m140i debate... just want to know is there a penalty for cancelling prior to delivery. I have put no money down only signed the paperwork at the time of ordering.
Thanks in advance

What does it say in the lease contract terms and conditions that you signed?

The only thing I’ve signed is the finance application. No mention of any cancellation fee.

If you've only singed the finance application and not paid a deposit then there is no penalty.
As for the 140i vs an R, head says R but heart says rear drive

Thanks for your reply. I’m test driving an m140i tomorrow so will decide after that.
I really do love the golf r but really wanted a hatch as did the Mrs. The estate is still a great looking car and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. However I’ve had two mk7 GTI (one man one dsg), i drive her gtd a fair bit and had an S3 between the gti’s. As you say just fancy going back to bmw for while, with the shadow edition you get a really good spec for only £8 more a month than R with same deposit. RWD and 340bhp it probably edges it on the fun factor!
Will decide over the weekend!

Still find it funny how cars are measured by “its only £8/month extra”. Still the headline cost that I measure cars by.

My only comment would be make sure that you get a reasonably long test drive of the BMW, because I found the driving position absolutely terrible.
I'm also no fan of their 8 speed auto box either, its not DSG...

Well a little update for those that are interested.
The advertised m140i lease deals advertised at the minute are difficult to get on a personal lease as BMW finance require either proof of a car allowance (I don’t get) or a letter from your company to say you require your car for business use (which I don’t be able to get).
So the Golf R looks like it will be parked on my drive in a couple of months!

For most people, that's the only figure what actually matters these days..

I should perhaps quantify my “£8 a month more”.
I look at value for money... for my £8 a month extra I’m getting heated leather seats and HK sound system amongst other things that the R doesn’t have. Plus ive hammered VW’s over the last few years so a change would be nice.
The m140i and R are both fantastic cars. Each have their merits and let’s face I won’t be disappointed in either

Well after ringing a few dealers it was proving too hard to get an M140i on a personal lease. I did drive my brother in laws manual 140 that only had 300 miles on it. Biggest observation was the steering wheel felt massive .
It was extremely quick, interior was nice and it sounded bloody good
However when I put my sensible head back on, I live in the hills where it snows regularly in winter, the m140i is smaller than our other car (mk7 GTI) so wouldn’t be the main car, the insurance is cheaper and a few other reasons the R is staying. Infact I’m that excited about it I’ve brought the delivery forward a month so collecting on the 8/03. As long as VW can collect the GTD before then.
Will post some pictures for those that are interested in seeing the ‘practical’ golf R
