Looks promising. Might have to try and persuade my OH to loosen her grip on her Lupo.....
-
Quite like the look of these.
If I was in the market for something smaller and wasn't spending so much time on the motorway this would definitely be on the shortlist.
-
Did a deal on on on Friday, red 3 door which will replace the R estate

Nice one! I'd mentioned it to my OH and all I got was this -

I’m going for a grey/black 3 door to replace our R hatchback. The R estate will stay for family duties.
Really excited about it, think VW have nailed it, great price and not so hard edged that it isn’t useable day-to-day.

I was tempted by black but you lose the stripes and the detailing
Similarly to you the 5 door is staying as not really used
Seems a real buzz about them which I think has been helped by the reviews

The CAR review is particularly good – http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/volkswagen/vw-up-gti-2018-review/

Had sat in one at Frankfurt as wanted to see the Polo GTI and Up GTI and driven a few Ups.
I took a gander at one at a dealer yesterday so my wife could see it, my dealers arrives in next week.
I think it will be spectacular around multi story car parks
-
Tbought about this but going to see what the Polo Gti is like come the end of February mat be in the running to replace the wife's Scirocco

The Polo GTI is a cracking car, sort of spiritual to Mk5 GTI in terms of size and performance.
I was going to wait but just decided I would rather put the extra £10K over the UP GTI into my second car
-
Decisions, decisions;
Up £13,750 3dr 1070kg
Polo £20,885 5dr DSG (manual later) 1355Kg (typo? Golf is 1386Kg)
Used S1?
-
It would be the Up for me. It's quirky and the market won't be flooded with them by the looks of it and I reckon it will depreciate less than the Polo.
-
I managed to take our Up GTI demo home tonight and can honestly say that’s the most fun I have had in a long time.......
A fabulous combination of comfort, torque, fun and also special Q car points : )
I must finder a longer route to work tomorrow than my usual 3 mike commute!

I hadn't realised that dealers had cars yet, I'll have to pop over to my local dealer and see when they are getting theirs. I almost bought my CS from your dealership but it had sold about an hour before my phonecall, I bought it from Chelmsford which I think is the same group?
-
Yeah same group, not every retailer has one but worth giving them a call and speaking to the new car sales manager because not all the sales people will know.
-
My wife said she wanted a smaller car. I said an UP GTI would be perfect for her. She replied UP yours!
She thinks UP is a silly name for a car.

So did mine but then I told her it I was toying with a 911 for the weekend car and she said that was a squashed beetle

There's a black Up GTI on this dealer's facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/specialistcarsvw/
-
That is good value for this little car. It should be great fun with similar performance to a MK2 GTi and ideally suited to suburban driving. I wouldn't recommend for fast A road commutes or long distance as there will be constant aggression and tailgating from the other drivers as soon as they see the GTI badge. Hell knows I get enough of it in my GTi PP. Tiresome.

My original choice was black and thought it was a bit mean they did not put silver stripes on it and it sort of loses its brashness

Just been to see one at a dealer near me (5 door in white) and the photos/videos don't really do it justice. It was parked next to a lower spec tornado red Up and the white looked nicer to me - the red is a bit too dull (sorry Wigit!), shame they don't do it in flash red. Anyhow, the car looks far better in the flesh! I'm test driving one next Wednesday and a purchase all depends on what the ride is like and also the power/torque of the engine.
-
First UK review from Volkswizard. Pretty positive on the whole, though I suspect many of the negatives come from the car not being run in. The actual 0-60 doesn't look to indicate truly how fast the car is as you need a change to third just before hitting 60.

I've had 2 white daily drivers and just need a change lol, also factor in the wife prefers red, in reality i can still change my mind in the next week before official order.
I agree it looks better as the photos make it look weird from certain angles.
5 door is the spiritual successor to the Panda 100.

So that's the car evo1986 Lee has been bombing about in!
A great review from Andrew there, hopefully he will drop by on here as he has a pretty unparalleled experience of the sporty VW's and Audis.
The short wheelbase and fairly tall body shell are bound to affect the handling and braking, but with brand new tyres with the chalk still on them in chilly wet January conditions with brand new discs and pads then it's not overly surprising the car felt a little skittish at times.
I think Andrew sums it up really well there.

I loved the bog standard up! I had as a courtesy car when they first came out. It got a good 'workout' in my hands including a blast along some forestry tracks. The little thing was so much fun, it took me back to my youth and my first car, a 1981 Daihatsu Charade. Now to some that may not sound like much of an accolade, but the Charade's 1.0 litre 3 pot would just rev and rev, which actually amounted to a decent turn of speed. It certainly had the legs to leave a nearby MG Metro. The Charade too could hold it's own being thrown about in the forests. Fond memories, but most probably rose tinted.
I can only imagine the up! GTI being even more fun, and will be well received by young buyers, but I can't see how anyone over 25 could live with one for much more than a week.

I had one as a courtesy car but the bu@@ers gave me an auto and it was the worst gearbox I've ever had the misfortune to use. Would like to give the GTI a go, that looks great fun. Would have to be red though.

The standard up! has no torque.
I was going to buy one for my sons to use when they passed their driving tests but the standard NA 1.0 was so gutless at anything under 4000rpm it was a joke, so I got them a Cooper D to use instead which has pretty much the same power and torque as an up! GTI coincidentally.
I think most older people buying an up! GTI will get one as a second 'town' car rather than their main transport.
It all depends on what you want a car for really, something like the 1.0 GTI TSI engine is ideal for small cars as it has plenty enough torque for town use, can blast down a motorway occasionally and is going to be a hoot to punt round the back roads. Proper fun motoring that will easily be able to keep up with bigger more powerful cars in real world conditions where your M3's etc just can't stretch their legs without risking a motoring ban.
Not so good for taking on Skylines at midnight on the city ring road maybe...
-
I take it that it is supposedly up against the likes of an Abarth 595?

Nail on the head, I have reached the point where the Golf R just bores me sh!less maybe if I stage 3 the wife's it may become interesting, I can see why people love them as you don't have to have a bag full of talent to get the most out of them

Hi everyone I've not been on here in a long time as there is not a lot new to discuss, same old discussions being rehashed (manual is for luddites/DSG makes your Golf a PS4, GTI owners saying the GTD is a sacriledge and the R isn't as good as the GTI due to pedigree etc.) and the car washing club posting lots of pics of shiny Golfs, but this discussion genuinely interested me because I would like to change my wife's Audi A1 1.6 TDI soon.
Had a lot of changes in my life and hobbies recently, including adopting two girls which makes the three door A1 completely impractical and as such I no longer have the R during the week, the wife has it in case she has to take the girls anywhere and I'm commuting in her A1. I'd like something a little bit more fun for the commute.
In pole position for my money is probably the upcoming new Polo GTI plus as it is well equipped and almost as quick as a Golf GTI. It's a pity they didn't up the power just a little to put it on par with the GTI considering that the new Golf is coming in 2019 and almost certainly with a power hike when the performance models come out.
After recently hearing about the up GTI it did peak my interest, although having read the review i'm unsure whether the skittish ride reported is down to bed ding tyres/brakes or not - not many people report their brand new Golf GTI, R or GTD or are being skittish if they give it the beans from day one and I suspect this is down to the car being very light, having a high driving position and having a very high centre of gravity. Two items of spec disappoint me greatly with this car though I would have expected LED headlights as they are getting really cheap now and weigh next to nowt, also the lack of disc brakes at the rear is a surprising move considering this is supposed to be a (light) performance VW. 113 PS is a bit lower than I would have expected for this car as well it doesn't even match the Lupo GTI which it replaces in spirit
I would have expected upwards of 130ps. Previous experience has shown me that very small engines that have to be worked hard all the time aren't noticeably more economical than the larger engines. The A1 1.6 TDI is is only 2mpg more economical than a Golf GTD driving like-for-like in reality, when you consider extra weight that the Golf is pulling and has 55% more power available, it's not very good at all. I suspect the same with this one litre 3 pot it will have to be worked hard all of the time and probably will be only a few miles per gallon better than a Golf GTI at best.
It will be "fun" because of its lack of refinement and likely skittishness (I don't think that will go away with bedding in for reasons already mentioned). It will feel like you are going quicker than it is because of it. The MQB platform is so refined that the performance Golfs feel a bit sterile (you never feel you are going as quick as you are), for me only the R "feels" quick because of its extra horses.
Very surprised that there are demos out there for the Up GTI yet it isn't on VWs configurator.
This UP is unlikely to have a decent level of discount and UP GFVs are abysmal by VW standards, so this might not be the bargain it appears if you consider cost as depreciation rather than purchase price, even if the GTI fares a little better than the rest of the range.
-
Welcome back MH!
I think that's a very good analysis and sums up my feelings having followed this thread for a while. You managed to write what I couldn't.
I think the problem is marketing again. In order to sell a range of things at different price points and to draw people up the price range this was never going to be 200 bhp, top end Brembos all round, bucket seats etc. In the same way as a Polo GTI won't be a Golf GTI, this had to be not a Polo GTI.
As we follow this path of progression we are doing what VW want you to do... for a little more I could have the Polo... for a little more than that I could have the Golf... for a little more than the GTI I could have the R... but if I can't financially reach the R... then I've got a few options on the way, almost certainly not the bait and switch at the bottom.
-
Welcome back indeed MH and congrats :afro:
I hope you're sharing your lego nicely with your recent arrivals?
Yeah, same ol' same ol' on here but that's not going to change!
I think some of your points about the up! GTI are spot on and some others will be down to cost.
The brakes are adequate for 115PS as far as VW are concerned so won't spend huge amounts on looking into 4 stud rear discs when hardly any models in the range run this configuration now.
The 115PS engine is a VW group staple engine and is quite torquey. By Andrew's comments in the vid about gearing it must run the same ratios as the new Ibiza FR 115 and quite likely other models too, being geared for economy (read emissions).
I don't think VW are pitching it up against more hardcore small hatches like the Cooper S or Abarth 500s.
They're going for their usual conservative middle ground which they know so well and in keeping the price where they want it in the hierarchy unlike the Lupo GTI which was expensive and sold in tiny numbers due to the bespoke parts on that model. The up! GTI is just a parts bin car like the original Golf GTI.
They've probably looked at the suspension and due to the skittishness brought about by the height versus width versus length they've gone for a more comfy set up rather than something that handles well but has to be nailed down on hard springs which will upset the middle of the road buyers it's aimed at.
The up! GTI lacks power but is a very revvy engine with bags of torque (relative to the weight) so the lack of 15PS might not be so evident in daily driving and if it had 130PS it might need a stiffer chassis.
I'm with you on the fuel economy though, an underworked big capacity 4cyl will do as well as a harder working smaller capacity engine.
I've run plenty of old Polos as round town runabouts to save wear on my GTI's etc over the years and they've not been much more economical in that sort of driving than bigger engined cars I've used as runabouts.
Without any influence from me at all  , my son has put in an order for the up! GTI's sassy, overweight and much sl*ttier looking cousin. :lipsrsealed:
Sure was! Back into my boring Tiguan Rline 2.0tsi DSG

That one will be well run in when it hits the forecourt!

Thank you. I can stop rocking in the the corner and blowing bubbles now.

Share my Lego? Never! There's about £5k worth of UCS Star Wars Lego sets on display on high shelves in the mancave/play room, including a new addition of the biggest one yet - the recently released 7500 piece Millennium Falcon.
I have bought the little ones plenty of their own though, Duplo and the regular stuff, and it gets used daily (especially the big Duplo train set)..
I paid my local dealership a visit today - no sign of an up! GTI, so I gave the new Polo a look, to size it out - it is massive as a Supermini, only a smidge smaller than a Golf. With the front seat right back (as I drive the A1, I have the Golf a notch off fully back when driving) there seemed as much rear legroom as the R has (any differences are tiny, without a tape measure, I wouldn't know.
Everything looked nice enough except the grab-handle area of the door cards - they felt so cheap in the hand. Surely VW could have spent an extra £3 per door card (translating to a £40 increase in RRP) to get the perceived quality up by improving the tactiles a bit. The Iron grey door flashes and dash looked a bit cheap, like SEAT standards (lacking gloss/depth). Boot size is pretty generous too. If I had to, I could live with this size as the primary car in the household. Lack of grab handles in the headlining is no loss. One of my mates holds on to his grab handle on every journey in any car (no matter how it is driven) if he is a passenger - annoys the hell out of me when he is in the front passenger seat of mine and I can see his arm hanging off the roof in my periphery vision.
Will take a test drive in a DSG variant when one comes in, but the salesman couldn't tell me when you can start ordering manuals (I suspect May/June for Sept delivery). Unless the test drive seriously disappoints I think it will be a manual GTI+ for us.
With a 5 door manual Polo in the household, i'll be able to claim my Golf back, I will fear for the Diamond Cut alloys though as the wife has badly scraped (probably needs a little welding before painting up) the nearside front wheel of her A1, and more recently has scraped one of my Prets (paint-deep only) in the same position. There is no painted wheel option on the GTI.
The A1 is not a bad car for the commute - drive it hard and still get 55-60mpg, revs nicely to the red line with no flat spots in 3rd to 70mph for powering up hills (there are 2 huge banks on my commute), zero road tax and 2.5 years left of a 5 year warranty. It would be sensible to keep it and be bored 5 days a week.
-
As hinted at above, my son has just taken delivery of a new MQB Ibiza FR with the same 115PS engine as the up! GTI.
I've only sat in it as a passenger yesterday for around 110 miles to get it home but I'm pretty impressed.
The up! GTI being lighter should provide excellent fuel economy as the Ibiza did 42mpg on the journey home which was not bad for a tight as a drum brand new car but more impressive was later in the evening when the thing was showing 40mpg around town!
My Ed40 would be doing around 25% worse economy than that at least.
The engine itself, according to my son, pulls well enough but due to the high gearing you have to treat it a bit like a Diesel. For instance when you'd drive in fourth and fifth around town in a Golf GTI the 1.0 115PS engine prefers to be in third at town speeds (30mph stuff) if you want it in the turbo band.
On the motorway where my GTI would be turning over at 4000rpm give or take the little 1.0 TSI was just loping along at a little over 2500rpm.
The engine is very muted at speed and sounds quite gruff when accelerating in a sporty sort of way.
That's the bits it shares with the up! GTI so on to the similarities with the Polo GTI as remarked upon by Monkeyhanger.
The new MQB Polo/Ibiza chassis is much bigger than the outgoing model. The first thing you notice is the cars sit much squarer like a Golf. The previous gen Ibizas and Polos were quite tall but narrow but these are significantly wider with a long wheelbase.
This means ride and handling are excellent for the class of car.
The front and rear overhangs are minimal, almost Mini like in fact with a proper wheel at each corner that makes manoeuvring really easy, great turning circle and sharp steering. The longer wheelbase helps ride quality too. The Ibiza looks damn near as big as a Leon now, particularly in width.
I wanted to get a photo of the Ibiza with my Golf nose to nose to show how big the Ibiza/Polo class of car is now but there's roadworks just up the road from me which means parking is a nightmare which limits space so there's no room to get the cars in position.
Inside the Ibiza does have plastics deliberately made to look cheaper than Polo plastics in certain areas but when you actually feel them and pull on the fittings you can clearly see it's pretty much the same stuff, the same dash architecture underneath, the same seat frames etc etc.
It's clearly just internal politics at play, the same with pricing structures and PCP deals with overall very similar £££ costs on a PCP deal muddied by list prices and deposit contributions. Ibizas clearly being marketed at younger people with the tech spec of FR's and sharper styling, the Polos being aimed at old gits like me who like carpet in their door bins.
Interior styling seems to be heading towards harder plastics now and huge coloured lumps of plastic on the dashboards that started in the Beetle and up! and has filtered through the range with each model change.
I'd say the new Ibiza has an interior quality and plastic feel broadly similar to a mk5 Golf with some cheaper Polo class bits of plastic in places like door handles and door bins.
Both the Polo and Ibiza still have that inexplicable triangle of painted metal on display at the rear of the rear door windows. Why?!
The Ibiza has a natty little map holder in the passenger foot well similar to an Audi.
I've not examined an MQB Polo closely, merely had a nose around a few on the dealer forecourt whilst car hunting with my son. He wasn't impressed with the Polo. I agreed with him too despite being positively geriatric which should make me more of a Polo demographic. The GTI is the only sharp looking Polo in the range now, the others look frumpy and have the same look as the non sporty mk7 FL Golfs.
And here's the thing.
We know from the SUV thread that this is the growth sector and just turning on the TV sees every car advert being SUVs now.
The Tiguan is squarely aimed at the Golf and Passat type buyer who like the luxury interior fittings. The T-Roc is the lifestyle model with the cheaper Polo style interior and Polo seats that'll replace the Beetle and Scirocco.
The Polo is damn near as big as a Golf but made down to a price in key areas but offers much better value for money.
Where does that leave the future of our beloved Golf?
To be honest I don't really care about where it leaves the Golf as I'm sure VW will pull something out of the bag with the next Gen model being as it's such a huge worldwide seller and still their bread and butter model for the time being.
In my eyes the Golf is looking poorer value as each year goes by and every step the Polo GTI takes in the Golf GTI's direction is another step toward me getting a Polo GTI next time round if I don't keep my mk7 in the longer term.
On paper the engine is 30 or 45 (or 65/90 in my case) down but that's easy enough to change...
-
FYI the Polo GTI is the only model in the range with multi-link rear suspension (just like the S1), so it really is a slightly shrunk Golf.

Isn't the 1.5 TSi also getting the multi-link suspension? It's stated in the back of the brochure.
-
Well I’ve been dead set on grey, but have just seen some photos of a black one on Instagram, and it looks amazing. Showed my wife and she said, that is the colour!

The Polo GTi doesn't have multi link rear suspension. None of the polos do.

My original order colour but changed as no side stripes, funnily enough my wife suggested black
-
Oh but it does Chris, you have to look hard, but it is in the small-print.
Look at the new Polo brochure PDF. page 18 "running gear" and it is there as multilink for the 200PS GTI only "multilink rear axle (2.0 Litre TSI 200PS)". Everything else is "twist beam" rear suspension, although the 1.5TSI isn't listed at all, so still might get it also.
I'm pretty sure i'll be getting one of those as the A1 replacement. The GTI+ looks an absolute bargain next to a standard 5 door DSG - £2800 worth of extras over the Polo GTI for £1650 more, gives it a bigger infotainment screen than the Golf, a cut down version of DCC (2 settings rather than fully range adaptive) and Keyless, vs the Golf's standard climate control, otherwise all spec same Polo GTI+ vs , save for 17" on Polo, upgradeable to 18" Brescias for a modest £350 (half that money must be just the bigger tyres), The Golf does have nicer door cards and grab handles though.
I'm sure you'll be able to get a GTI+ manual for about £18200 broker discount price, based on DTD offering a GTI+ DSG for £19425 and DSG box is usually a £1450 option (£1230 at same discount level) . 148PS/Tonne vs the Golf's 166PS/Tonne. GFVs on the finance pages of VW's website indicate Polo GTI+ holding half it's RRP at 3 years, same as a Golf, so no hammering on depreciation to make the car dearer to run.
One of the developers of the Polo GTI went on record to say the Polo GTI was sharper handling and more fun than the current (sure that'll be fixed with the MK8 if it is true).
So it seems you get 90% of the Golf GTI (slightly smaller, equivalent spec, slightly lower output) for 2/3 of the money - makes the Golf look overpriced, as Exonian says.
Go on the finance calculator, both the Polo GTI+ (5 door DSG) and the standard 5 door DSG, the Polo is a whopping £139 a month cheaper over 3 years assuming RRP and £3500 deposit on both (£289pm vs £428).
Given the increase in size on the Polo platform (to MK4 Golf dimensions) making it almost as practical as the Golf, as well equipped and not hugely down on PS/Tonne, I could see the Polo GTI+ cannibalising MK7.5 GTI sales until the MK8 presumably puts a bigger power advantage out there (expecting 270PS on the next Golf, to keep up with the competition).
If the manual Polo GTI+ were available to order now, I probably would have ordered it already.
As an aside, expecting my R to go in for warranty work next week - it is pissing windscreen washer fluid. Topped up 3.5L after the warning light came on (having just added a litre 3 days earlier), and 2L of it was on the road half an hour later, overnight it dropped to warning levels again.

Well I’ve been dead set on grey, but have just seen some photos of a black one on Instagram, and it looks amazing. Showed my wife and she said, that is the colour!
My original order colour but changed as no side stripes, funnily enough my wife suggested black

Can't remember who said it and in what article but the polo doesn't get multi link rear suspension like the golf GTi. It could have been in VW Driver magazine. Could be another brochure cock up from VW or the polo article is wrong
-
I'd also be very surprised if they offered a multi link setup on the GTi, that would surely add a huge amount of expense ?
And we all know how accurate the VW brochures are ?
-
The outgoing Polo GTI had mulitilink rear suspension, so not much of a stretch to think that the new one would too. I would always take the online car mag scoops and news with a pinch of salt - they always show photoshopped pics of the "spied new model" and make the details up until VW come out with something concrete - these same people were saying tbe up! was going to be at least £15k.
The only inaccuracy i've seen in the brochures was the launch MK7 one - equipment included "anti-tramp device". They added a tramping device to mine - Bridgestones.
-
Matt, just checked the article in this month's VW driver magazine and he definitely states no multi link rear suspension but an uprated rear torsion beam. It could have been a euro spec car but surely they wouldn't do two different rear setups for different markets.

We'll have to wait and see for a proper UK spec to be scrutinised for sure but VW do alter suspension set-ups for different markets, to hit a pricepoint or through lack of need for better agility in corners. The MK7 Golf GTI comes with (or at least pre facelift did) fixed beam suspension for the US market with it's die-straight roads. Different markets get lots of different things from UK spec. Adding a fixed beam to a Golf 7 GTI when the bottom rung trim has it is child's play. If the Polo GTI is the only model trim in the whole factory getting multi-link then its a little less convenient for VW to do. Likely there's an Ibiza Cupra in the wings expecting multilink suspension at tge same factory.
Highly doubt VW driver mag got their hands on a full UK spec Polo GTI a month ago when that article was written. Ordering only started mid-Dec. Would've been one of a handful the Germans knocked up for press release.

I’ve got a 2016 Polo GTI, so the outgoing model. Here’s my rear suspension; beam axle.

I went to look at a red one on Saturday which goes tornado pink in certain lights (I am sure many remember the Mk5 jokes), looked at a white one today and white it is going to be, private reg also sorted which ties in with the M2
Did spec up a Polo and was at £25K, notice there are lease deals around which to me seem not as good value as the R of GTI.

I was convinced that it (outgoing model) had multi-link, tried hard to push the wife towards a Polo GTI instead of the A1. She's ip for a Polo this time around.(it was my money being spent), so looked well into it. Should be in a courtesy Polo tomorrow night when the R goes in, so will see what is missing in the ride on a fixed beam axle, just in case current brochure is wrong.
If i'm lucky, Pulman Durham will have an up! GTI to look at.

Right decision imho. TR looks good in certain photos - there have been a couple of Clubsports posted elsewhere which looked stunning, then I see the TR MK7 R around the corner and it looks really dull. White for me, or maybe black - but as you pointed out, no side stripes which is a real shame.

That have, and so do VW in Newcastle, both white though so not worth going to the two dealers (like I did :) )

Funnily enough there were a few TR Mk7s today in the car park where I was parked and I thought the same, the issue that got my OCD was the TR does not go with the dash.
I have to admit my white R estate has had the best paint of any of the VWs we have owned and gets the least attention
-
TR looks perfect in all conditions

Interesting info and pics, let's see when the first UK models arrive, the parts do exist for the S1 so its still possible.

Found this on the web re the new Polo GTI. Deffo torsion beam according to that.

^^^That looks like DCC? I can't see that option on the VW website GTI configurator? Lack of it is what is stopping me considering a new Polo GTI. My mate's 2017 Polo GTI suspension is really hard and choppy, not nice.
-
The polo definitely has DCC - only 2 settings and not 3 like the Golf, but its definitely got it (as an option)
-
It's not the same system as a golf though.
-
No and it might not be "dynamic", it could just be a manual selection of ride firmness. It will be another off the shelf solution from the same OEM that VW buy it from (can't remember who it was I found was the OEM).

It’ll probably be more like the optional Sports Performance Pack (SPP) in the outgoing Polo GTI which gives you a second (‘Sport’ mode) setting. Although optional on the outgoing Polo GTI, it was a cheap option (£245 from memory), so it was never going to be as versatile or clever as DCC on the Golf. I’ve got SPP on my 2016 Polo GTI because it was cheap, so IMO because of the cost, deciding to have it was a bit of a no brainer.
The ‘Sport’ setting gives you;
- firmer ride (and it is pretty firm!)
- more weighty steering feel
- sharper throttle response
- increased engine noise through a soundaktor.
The ride in an outgoing Polo GTI without the SPP option is somewhere between ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ modes in a car equipped with SPP.
I tend to leave mine in ‘Normal’ mode. I’d like to be able to select ‘Sport’ steering and throttle response but keep normal ride and engine noise but unfortunately that’s not possible. Maybe it will be possible in the new Polo GTI?

Front end looks terrible in red but the side and rear shots look ok.
-
Well order has been confirmed with a white 3 door with black roof and a few boxes ticked
-
Noticed the GTI is now listed on Drive The Deal with a £1600 discount, including the £500 dealer contribution.
Unfortunately work commitments mean I'm not going to be able to get to my dealer for three weeks, but I'm fairly confident I'm going with 3 door, Tornado Red/black roof, City Braking pack, climate control, adjustable passenger seat, and probably the Beats audio system. So much for keeping it simple!
-

You lose the lower half of the boot with Beats so I elected to give it a miss as my Brompton would not fit.
Bar colour i ticked the same boxes as you get used to your comforts

Ah, thanks for the heads up, that might change things. The last thing I want to do is compromise the boot space on an already small car.

I caught this in the nick of time, the website has brochures and price lists which confirms this.
Having driven one now I will not miss it as what that have succeeded with on the up! is the fake noise sounds realistic unlike on the R, 40 minute soon with salesman and us both laughing
