Title: VW Golf not on the "most stolen list 2017"
Post by: fredgroves on 10 January 2018, 16:21
Most stolen vehicles in 2017:

The list of at-risk motors is as follows:
Audi: A3, A4, A6
BMW: 730d
Citroen: DS4 Crossback
Ford: Galaxy, EcoSport
Honda: HR-V
Hyundai: Santa Fe
Kia: Optima
Lexus: RX 450h
Mazda: CX-5
Mini: Clubman

Not much consolation to those with nicked Golfs but seems like the scum like a SUV more than a hot hatch.

Maybe they are all getting old...

Apparently white versions of these are even more likely to be stolen... in fact white cars are stolen to order far more than any other because they ship them to hot places where people want white because it reflects the heat.

Two top ideas for deterrents:

1) Buy a black car
2) Jam the heater on max

:D

Surprised there isn’t a Mercedes on the list.

I've seen that list somewhere else and it looks wrong to me. Most of those cars are very rare, surely they can't get nicked that much as there are hardly any on the roads, especially in comparison to say a Golf or Focus. The X5 was the most nicked for a good number of years but isn't even mentioned.

Where did the list come from?

The thread title states most stolen, but then states most at risk.

Most stolen and most at risk are not necessarily the same thing.

This list is probably more accurate due to the value of the bits second hand

Just had word last night that a good friend of mine in West Yorkshire had his 8 month old Golf R stolen last night in what he's described to be as a very violent and harrowing experience.

He's had the car nearly stolen once before, but then had the Autowatch Ghost fitted (as recommended by his insurance company). Well on Tuesday night he was woken by three large men in balaclavas in his bedroom demanding they give him the keys (they had broken in though the patio). He duly gave them the keys without hassle, but whist one of the guys went down to the car, the other two stayed with him and his wife.

Minute later he was back and in a foreign language (he thinks eastern European - maybe Romanian, Serbian etc.) said sometime to his other colleagues and one of them produced a large knife and grabbed his wife Julie, and threatened to cut her if he didn't start the car for them. Obviously he didn't hesitate and went downstairs to the car and entered his pin, and they drove off with his car and another BMW X5 they had waiting.

Police attended and are treating this very seriously as you can imagine, although CID did say they hadn't been made aware of eastern Europeans operating in the area and it's the first time that an aggravated car theft in his area had been so violent.

Needless to say my mate is still very shaken but his wife Julie is in pieces and inconsolable. To make matters worse his two kids (one 5 and one 2 year old) were in the next rooms. What sort of pond life scum  does that to a family over a bloody car !!! I don't normally think this, but I hope they loose control at high speed and plough head on into a motorway bridge and all die a most painful death (assuming no one else is involved of course). A horrible thing to wish for, but my friend and his wife are one of the nicest and friendliest couples you could ever wish to meet, and this sort of thing just shouldn't' happen in civilized society.

Needless to say, he doesn't ever want to see the car again and said he will never get a nice new car ever again. Said he can't go though that twice. My heart really goes out to the pair of them, and I doubt the scumbags will ever be caught.

That's pretty dreadful :(

Not much you can do to protect your family and the car from that sort of thing other than live in an impenetrable fortress!

Mind you, if you live in some of the rougher areas you probably already have such a fortress or you won't have anything in your house, not even the kettle.

Some of my friends who live in London live in places that look like bunkers with heavy steel doors over doors and windows. Not sure I'd want to live like that.

What sort of pond life scum  does that to a family over a bloody car !!!

Plenty of scum who will do this over a relativly "cheap" car..it aint a rolls or lambo..

Unfortunatly since certain ex-eastern block countries were allowed to have EU travel the scum from those countries have treated out country as nice rich easy pickings....

We have our own idiginous scum, why allow others in??..& yes we do need skilled employable Eu citizens, just there seems to be a high % of scum coming in also..

Alot of the ex eastern block countries have a high % of their own scum & their own male attitutes/cultural behaviour is more drinking & fighting & thus more agressive than ours....just look at utube...

Yes I have know scum & skiled eastern block people...many of the skilled/sane ones dispare at the the % of scum in their own land & those that are here which give them a bad name..

Another example...I spent new years in hospital burst appendix, ...Polish bloke, muscled hard man type with tats & short crop hair younger than me say mid 30's same...caused absolute mahem on the ward I was on (six beds), shouting..& very abusive to staff...talking full tilt & very loud like they do on his mobile at 4AM !!!....they even had to call security in & have two heavies watching him....All this whilst the hosptial was short staffed at the most busy time of year...& he took up at least double the staff time because of his attitude.....after two nights & days they eventually they found a single contained bedroom on another ward at the hospital as he was causing so much distruption..even tho they had morphined him up to the eyeballs.....which made him quieter...but not much

Its about time we sorted the wheat from the chaff & kicked the scum off beachy head at low tide.....the OP did the right things...otherwise he or his wife may not be here...no point trying to be a hard man as these types treat our country like the old invaders...rape, pillage, etc...not their country they don't care if they trash it.....

Alarms with panic buttons & red care I think the OP needs to get.....going back to the old days...make the home a fortress.....portcullis anyone???

That’s awful and absolutely shocking Sootchucker. Hopefully your friend and his family weren’t physically harmed and the mental scars won’t take too long to heal. It beggars belief the lengths that the lowest of the low scum and pond life will go to steal someone else’s property.

Although Autowatch Ghost is meant to be very good from a security angle - undetectable and pretty much impossible to defeat, because of the way it works, physical injury or worse to the car owner and their family could be the outcome if some scumbag is determined enough to relieve the owner of their pride and joy.

I hope the perpetrators suffer the fate you were suggesting. Any form of custodial sentence would be far too good for lowlife like them

What was the other security system like Ghost but caused an engine cutout after a few minutes of driving? That might get them away from you before disabling the car?

Yeah, I spoke to him this morning and his still very upset (as you can imagine) and his wife has had to be prescribed sedatives as she hasn't slept for over 48 hours since the indecent, she's still inconsolable, and I think it's the affect it's had on his family that he can't take, not the losing of the car.

Not that they care at all, but the problem for these scum bags isn't so much the property they steal (which is still bad enough), as a car can (usually) be replaced and with the like of GAP and VRI if taken, the owner shouldn't be out of pocket, it's the mental scars that are left behind by these traumatic incidents. They seem to take the attitude, well if you can afford the car in the first place, then you can afford to replace it when I nick it - with no thought at all for the human beings involved !

Your name isn't Nigel is it?

In fairness I do partly agree with you.

We had our house robbed twice about 10 years ago while we were out and that was bad enough so I can't imagine what Sootchuckers friend's are like.

Last year an eastern European tried to rob me while I was getting money out at a cast point. Luckily I was able to grab a hold of him and gave him as much of a beating as I could until the cops turned up. I wonder what he was like in hospital?

No its not Nigel...& that's the problem in this PC world...have any views which are even in line with facts & point out problems with certain people then you are classed as racist etc..

I have at least 5 friends in the police up here & over the last 13yrs the number of hard crimes involving ex eastern block people & criminals has increased...out of proportion considering the % of the population that they make up...but you can't say that....it might be stereo typing & racist...but its hard fact...

I don't care what your skin colour is or you race or religion....come over here , work hard , integrate into this country & respect our culture/ways then fine....I have many foreign friends who have done this all ok....its the ones who can't be bothered to integrate...can't be bothered to learn the language & demand that we change our culture & laws to suit their culture & laws that I have a problem with.....

If you don't like our culture & laws & want to make them like your original faith/country then why the hell are you over here in the first place???...stay at home..or if born here them move to a country which has those faiths etc as the norm...stop trying to turn this country into your "homeland/faithland"...my grandfathers fought for the freedoms of this country in both world wars....

PS that polish bloke had very selected English....could understand & speak when it suited him...& then went in a rant in full Polish at the nurses...so they had to find a Polish speaking nurse/doc to translate....& when they were not there at night then phone call translators....& when his kids came in he was using his about 10yr old daughter (who could speak better English than him & wife) to translate when the consultants came around in visiting hours....he had a huge rant at the docs via his daughter who was getting upset so the docs told him they would not talk via his daughter as it was unfair to put her under stress....he didn't care & carried on ranting.....absolute idiot....

RANT over.....sorry for off topic ish... :embarrassed:

OMFG, that is the most appalling story

I had a similar (albeit far far less traumatic) experience last weekend. They didn't get into my house, nor were they the confrontational types (they ran when they realised I'd rumbled them), but I saw a scumbag in a balaclava outside my house and I have the jitters over it since. Needless to say my Golf R is going. Disappointing but I couldn't be dealing with that kind of stress, wondering when/if they'll be back for another go. F**k that.

Whilst what Golfdave said is most likely very true (and no Dave, you are not a racist for saying it), my post wasn't supposed to be an attack on foreigners or immigrants - as someone said above, there are enough home grown evil b*astards of our own already here in this country without importing them from abroad.

Yes, it's going today.
It'll be replaced by something fairly nice, just not a hot hatch.

I couldn't do that to myself... Its a BMW 420d MSport. Nice looking car but in a fairly sedate colour, diesel saloon, I don't think it'll be of interest to the hooligans who won't leave my Golf alone
