Clarification needed please.
DSG - i turned the auto hold button off after a few hours of collecting the car. Not used it since. I like the slight roll forward when releasing the brake after standing. Find auto hold a litte jerky. When the car is parked up, DSG in P and electronic hand brake on, no auto hold.
However thought I would try auto hold again after my Dad noticed I dont use it.
Came to a stop at traffic lights behind another stationary car usual gap between use. DSG in D applied brake until stopped and auto hold kicked in foot off brake pedal sat waiting to move off dsg still in D
After around a minute maybe a little longer the auto brake disengaged and car rolled forward (like youd expect in a automatic). Flat surface no accelerater pedal input by me. thank god i was paying attention and hit the brake otherwise i would have gone into the back of the person in front . I have replicated this and maybe 50 percent of the time auto hold disengages and car rolls forward . Other times it holds still for a while.
What am I doing wrong?

Massive fan of auto hold so it’s always on, apart for the odd fine parking manoeuvre. Never had what you describe, not on flat or inclines, car simply does not move once auto hold has engaged until foot is applied to the accelerator pedal. Are you sure you’re not inadvertently slightly nudging the pedal? Auto hold definitely on, with the orange light lit up? Do you get the green symbol on the DIS? Are you using Stop Start or ACC?

No definately not touching the accelerator, not using acc either when it happens. Orange light on the button and the light above the display showing its engaged. It simply disengages after random amounts of time and as dsg is in gear the car lunges forward. Is there anything else Im missing or a trip to the dealer needed?

I might be totally wrong on that as I haven't investigated into it because the system has always worked without any issues and I have never had AH disengaging on its own, but when you came to a stop, did you apply the brakes firmly or just stopped slowly with the lightest brake help?
I thought I had read that when the auto hold engages it uses as much "braking force" as it was applied at the moment of stopping, not more. Meaning that if you stopped mostly because you rolled to a stop (just lost the inertia) rather than because of strong braking force the brakes are not fully applied and/or maybe the clutch is still half-engaged? Which would mean that after a while it will become hot and the DSG will automatically release the brakes for its own protection? Just a guess

I would take the light on the DIS as evidence that it’s engaged properly. I find only the lightest touch on the brake is enough to engage auto hold, it doesn’t need much force at all ime. I would be getting it checked out of it’s happening so much and you can’t figure out why.

Yeah just normal stopping power nothing too light or heavy.
I will book it in, just wanted to check I wasnt missing a trick, thanks for the advice
Will also geg the drivers creeking seat looked at aswell

Are you in gear? I think the auto hold will let go when you get bite , so you dont need to touch the gas you just need to raise the clutch a little. When mine is on I often have it out of gear as I have released the auto hold inadvertently by finding the bitting point.
Sorry just read this again and missed the dsg part first time but will leave incase it helps ant manual drivers.

I'm on my second MK7 GTD at present and since the first one back in September 2013, I've never turned auto hold off. That combined with the auto handbrake for my 2 cars has just worked seamlessly and I've never needed to intervene.
When I come to stop, I just let the auto stop/start cut the engine if necessary, or else (if the engine isn't warm enough), just wait for a second or so until the green auto hold light shows on the dash (gearbox still in "D"), then release the foot brake and the car just stays put. Never creeps forward or does anything unexpected.Then when I need to move off, just press the accelerator pedal and the auto hold releases smoothly and off I go. That combined with the DSG makes town motoring really relaxed.
I would suggest your needs looking at by the dealership.

Thanks for this, its the same process Im doing. Had it again this morning. Feet nowhere near the pedals when it happened.Been trying to time it and auto hold released and car lunged forward.
Even when it does work, i dont find it dis engages very smoothly. Even If I barley touch the accelerator it is jerky and get a small kick in the back when pulling away

Maybe try changing the auto hold time to early with your favourite old tool? That’s for the release speed btw and not the actual release, that one I’d take it to vw

My last service there was a software update on the auto handbrake...maybe yours might need updating?
That was in November last year I had mine done.

This definitely should not happen.
I had a similar problem which went away after a software update at the last service.
