Who knows if you have a restriction opening on the tailgate ?. My facelifted car actually opens the tailgate higher than before.
Which means it takes in the garage door, and can give scratches I have noticed ..
Anyone handy here ?! :)

I'm not aware of any way to lessen the amount the tailgate opens. Could you not add some foam to where it catches your garage door? Or reverse in instead of drive in?

I use foam on the garage door, but when the car is dirty. The tailgate is so strong that it slide a little on the foam and makes scratches..
And no the garage is so tight so if i reverse i can´t get the stuff in the boot..

audi had a similar problem on the Q3 it was going so high some peo0le couldn’t reach it
so they did a shorter support strut. To limit the opening height , my dealer swapped them for free
Maybe VW do a similar thing .?????

Just tested in our double garage with separate single doors MK7 GTI & MK7.5 R they are identical raise and struts both are 12cm of garage doors tailgates fully open.

I don’t open the tailgate in my garage for this reason - always wait until the car is out of the garage before putting things in or taking them out of the boot. Not always as convienient as it would be to do it in the garage, but IMO, better than scratching up the tailgate where it would touch the garage door.

That is strange?. My MK7 GT don´t open so high. But can´t understand the different in tailgate. I will try to measure more..

Yes you are right will not open the tailgate anymore in the garage, to i find a solution of the problem..

you could just buy new struts which don't open as high.

 :grin:Yes that would be the easiest
But it strange that it open so high, the GTI is lower than my other mk7 GT...
