Title: MK7.5 Front grill removal
Post by: 7MAT on 19 December 2017, 14:47
Hi,

Had an unfortunately accident of hitting a pheasant on the way back from the local Café today.

Fortunately not too much damage, only the honey combe grill has cracked.

Does anyone know how to remove the front grill on the mk7.5? Found a few videos for the mk7 which look super easy to remove.

Not so the mk7.5 - Have tried removing the two bolts and can unclip the grill from the top but can't work out how to release the bottom of the grill?

Any ideas? Can I just buy a replacement grill and keep the same camera badge?

Matt

Did you insurance policy cover "uninsured pheasant" based accidents :D

Dosen't the front VW badge contain the driver assist camera / sensor?

I do hope I can just buy the grill on its own, but can't yet work out how to remove it.

Still got nice little video of the pleasant plucker from my Blackvue dashcam.

Isn't the badge/radar part of the bonnet rather than the front grill? (I can't remember)

I had hoped that by moving it up to the badge it was out of reach of jay walking animals now on the Mk7.5...

Yes it the front top grill - the one with the GTI logo on that's been smashed.

It's probably worth considering relocating to Salford.
There's much less chance of hitting a pheasant or slipping on a Quails egg

Popped into VW this morning and I can just purchase the top grille minus the sensor.

Part number for anyone interested is 5G0853651CMCEE, VW want £180 inc VAT!

Maybe try one of the other parts suppliers... you might get it less than a main dealer price

The lower grill and you're in big trouble. it's the whole front end has to come off. The top grill should be straight fwd, yes the worry being the badge sensor, if undamaged just the emblem and grill. I bet it's still silly money, maybe check breakers yards?
Still, that's Christmas dinner sorted, although they are a nightmare to pluck, we get loads round here.

Just seen above £180 not bad IMO ( although probably £100 mark up!!) as long as it's the whole kit. No hurry, sure the cars still driveable.

Yes have found it £40 cheaper elsewhere, but not going to worry just yet. Will get it sorted next year.

Now that I've washed off all the blood, guts and feathers it doesn't look too bad and as you say its still driveable.

Finally you're making sense. Thankfully there are no barryboys in Salford.... they would get tw#tted
