Just to counter the other thread, let's have some positivity!
How it combines comfort, performance, handling and economy in a package that is roomy, practical, good looking and fun! There are a lot of similar great cars yet for me, all of them fail on one or more of the points given. I enjoy driving and my GTI has enhanced that feeling many fold. Love it

drives in sport mode, Shell vpower only & still gets a true calibrated 43mpg....
Very chuckable for a big car (I have the estate)....
Sports seats very comfortable even after all day driving...
-
Nice place to be
-
Pretty much everything and I only have the tractor version.
-
That it so good that if a day goes by I’m not driving it, it’s a day too long.
-
The fact that my wife has driven it pretty much daily since May and it's not got so much as a stone chip on it. Bugger, I've jinxed it now.
-
Basically the amount of standard features that you get which would be an additional option on most other manufacturers
-
So good I am about to take delivery of my 3rd Mk7/7.5
-
Loved the last company one so much that I bought one of my own to replace it... probably says most things!
Specifically:
1) Comfort (although having had a loaner bluemotion, its comfort from the sports seats)
2) All round visibility (practicality over style!)
3) Big enough to fit lots of stuff in but small enough to park in ever smaller car park spaces
4) Standard equipment levels on GTD/GTI/R leave others for dead. Most things included as standard.
5) ACC on a manual box - something others outside of VAG can't do
6) Depreciation that makes a relatively pricey model relatively cheap on PCP
7) Main dealer who actually are better than the ones I used for other marques (not perfect but better for sure!)
Lots of really solid reasons why I chose my first Golf, still relevant going forward. I've certainly got a third one top of the list for the next car...
Just surprised it took me so many years to drive/own one really

Don't mention the war!
Dynamic Light Assist is amazing.
I'm amazed by the performance of my GTI compared to my GTD.
The Art velour seats lifts the interior up a level.
I was doing so many miles I stopped enjoying driving. The GTI has fixed that. It's just an amazing car

Fun and practicality.......I had a BMW e92 335i before and it was not as much fun to drive as the GTI and useless for everything else. I fact I have kept this car longer than all the others I have owned and will not be getting rid of it any time soon as it does everything I want it to and always leaves me with a smile on my face and wanting to keep driving.
I dread the day self driving cars are the only option.
-
The fact that it puts a smile on my face every time I put the key into the ignition.

Agree!
I have tried to buy a new Bmw 1-serie or a A-Class Merc....But that was inpossible...The cars don´t feel as premium as the Golf.

I love the fact that with the car rammed full of people and Christmas presents I did a round trip of 180 miles in -temperatures and averaged 38mpg. Oh and this was on the original Bridgestones which never once lost grip 😉...... just saying.

Must've been the extra ballast
-
Yeah could have been but even flooring it out of roundabouts it didn't even flash the traction control light and it never has.

This! Looked long and hard for something something equal, but bigger...still looking!

So it seems there's more to complain about the MK7 than there is to praise, 16 replies in 11 days against 90 in 10 days on the whingeing thread....

It’s the British way

Universally admired. Such a class act, gets checked out the whole time. Relatively rare, especially in Reflex Silver.
Great balance of qualities. Never embarrassing to be seen with or in.
I always look back as I walk away.
Passengers love the interior.
Excellent drive, especially with pedal box.
It’s my third GTI (had a GTD before that).
Is that enough?
I’ll get my coat now.......

I have had my fair share of problems with my car between car and dealer induced and I still love the car. Over the last few months the only problem I've had is the seat bolsters made of jelly but I'm hoping the next time I have it replaced(second time) will be the last as I'm going to get someone that specialises in it and have it reinforced some way.
-
How fast it got built and delivered. They said 22 weeks, it arrived in about 6.
What amazes me about it is that it's costing alot to have and run but I don't care because I love it :D

Is this an issue with GTD bolsters , I know of issues but generally due to usage rather than manufacture.
Yours are only 9 months old..?

According to the dealer it is so common that the have them in stock most of the time. It must be a Golf thing because I never had a problem with the seats in my CC in over 100,000 miles.
-
I liked it so much I couldn't bear to part with the GTD so gave it to my son, talked my wife into getting the GTI and moved myself to the R.
By far the best 3 cars I've ever had on the drive at the same time.

It does all the important stuff well. As from reading the 'other' thread, most of the annoyances were niggles rather than major flaws.
My previous Ford Focus handled brilliantly, but that was its party piece. Aside from that, it had a dashboard that was seemingly made of egg boxes stuck together with blu tac, a turning circle like a Boeing 747, a stereo that sounded like a fly in a bottle and doors that closed like a biscuit tin lid.
No such issues with the VW. Everything (well nearly everything) is exactly as it should be.
