Title: Optional Extras After Receiving Car
Post by: DTX3 on 30 November 2017, 14:29
Received my 7.5 GTI last month and wish I had taken a few optimal extras now.

Are there any from the brochure which I can get added without costing an arm and leg or completely taken the car apart? Or am I too late.

I was thinking of things like:

- Rear camera
- Park Assist
- Dynamic Light assist
- Lane assist

Also the PP version obviously has a slight bhp increase. What have Volkswagen done to increase this? Added anything extra to the engine?

Cheers

Rear camera-yes costs about £300 including the cost of a few tools to make it easier to remove trim and takes about 2-3 hours to fit if you're handy with trim removal. It will also need about 2 minutes of coding with either VCDS or OBDeleven.

Park assist-it's a Golf, do you really need it? It will be expensive!

Dynamic light assist-even more expensive than above and will need a new windscreen.

Lane assist-see above and add even more £££'s

I suppose anything can be done if your pockets are deep enough but is it really worth it? You can drive so you should be more than up to parking and if you can't keep your car in a lane, well, no offence but they all sound like expensive gimmicks to me. The PP is heavier so the extra few bhp probably make no discernible difference but if you want to add more power a remap or a tuning box will do it easily enough but may cause warranty issues. Go for a pedalbox, really peps up the responses and brings the car alive. Cheap, easy to fit and huge fun! You'll enjoy driving the car so much you'll forget about those other gimmicky gadgets.

Watts is right, although he is too tight to get a polisher for his car

I'm still hurting from paying for tyres right now! But hopefully I'll take a shine to a DA very soon  And yes, I am very, very tight....

All of the items you list, barring the rear camera, would be total no-no's for retrofitting. It would involve huge expense and yes, ripping the car apart.

It'd be cheaper to trade it for one in the spec you want.

Any reason to get the plus version over standard other than the look and a few extra features?

Also DTE charge 15 euros for postage from Germany. So prob be worth DTUK

Park assist can be retro fitted but you'll need a new brake servo amongst other things and also the extra parking sensors.

Yep all can be retro fitted & various other people have done in other counties...

This person has done the lot & is a business I think, very well known of Ross-Tech...& here is link to the PDF on how to do the lot..

Trouble is money fro the parts, VCDS & VAGCANpro, & removing front, rear bumpers, interior trim, etc....

the PP pack got the extra bhp with an ECU tweak & only to offset the extra weight of the FXD (haldex unit) & the "R" brakes front & rear, no other reason....
