I’m finding the engine a bit noisier than I expected, almost a dull diesel like noise when accelerating. I do like smooth quiet power.
I know there is fake noise when in sport mode but does it also operate in other modes or are the noises I’m hearing all natural ?
-
The Soundaktor works in other driving modes other than Sport mode.
Try ‘Individual’ driving mode then select ‘ Interior Engine Sound’.
You can then select ‘Normal’ for less input or ‘Eco’ for even less input.
If it is this noise, still bugging you, then you can switch it off entirely with VCDS/OBD11 or physically unplug the unit itself.

Is it not the exhaust that you here?. It is pretty loud

Maybe you've bought the wrong car.. Perhaps a GTE would have been better?

Where is the unit to unplug?
No I haven’t bought the wrong car, it’s just I don’t expect it to be as noisy as my previous GTD. perhaps I am expecting too much and it’s a minor irritation that if I can fix I will.

Try to identify if it is the stupid Soundaktor first. Sounds as if the engine is stressing too much even at moderate throttle applications and more like an annoying rattle/vibration than an actual engine sound. Choose Individual and set Engine Sound to Eco, floor it, set Engine Sound to Sport, repeat, compare. Very easy to get rid of if that's the issue.

I never thought the soundaktor was a problem, but I've set my GTD to individual/eco engine noise and its remarkable how much noise the soundaktor makes even in normal mode.
I never used to understand why people used to moan about it and disconnect it, but its made my car much quieter which is only a good thing when you munch as many miles as I do. Noise is tiring, which isn't good for driver alertness.

You have bought a hot hatch you know?! Were you expecting it to sound like a Prius? Turbocharged 4 cylinder engines are never going to be quiet in this type of car so I really have no idea what you were actually expecting to sound like.... It's a better sound than the one that uses the black pump.

It'll definitely be the soundaktor. I unplugged mine but thought it too quiet so plugged it back in. I do still like it but am beginning to think I'd like to turn it down a bit but on mine you can't do that in individual and I'm not going to put the whole car in ECO mode

I saw on some YouTube clips that you can adjust volume with VCDS
-
Turned the Soundaktor off on mine completely using OBDeleven.
With the OBDeleven tool you can adjust it from 100% all the way down to 0%.

Will try putting sound in Eco mode to see what it's like.
