Title: Considering getting a mk6 GTI
Post by: Pazzer on 26 November 2017, 10:49
Good morning guys,

As above I’m considering getting one, I’ve got a 2007 Audi S3 at the moment but just wondering had anyone made the switch?

Just looking for something a bit more fun and lighter than the Audi.

Cheers,
Dan

Get the s3 mapped to make it more fun as the mk6 won't tick that box coming from an s3

Haha just had that done and still considering selling it. It’s just not that fun, and I’m hoping that the golf would handle better with it being lighter. I very nearly bought a 2010 GTI a few years ago, but hesitated, then someone else bought it when I was on the way home.

Also there’s quite a bit of turbo lag on the s3.

Can't see it being able to handle any better than your s3 although it will feel lighter and who mapped the s3

Ok, it was an APR map. I just thought that lighter cars generally were better handlers.

Ah ok cool. No I haven’t and I can’t afford one, I prefer the looks of the mk6 anyway.

If you do look at a mk6 make sure you read the info in the mk6 section about the timing chain issues that they had

Will do thanks a lot. I think you’ll like the s3 coming from an r32.

Not much comes close to a decent s3 with some r-tech magic though

Well apart from the numb steering, body roll and heaviness that is!

Body roll can be sorted but I will admit the steering did feel a bit lifeless

Yeah I might get some ARB’s to help with that. Can’t do much about the steering though!

If you do decide on a mk6 GTI if you can stretch to the edition 35 model it has the same engine as the s3 rather than the mk6 GTI engine so is more tuneable if you find you miss the power.

Went and viewed my mates 07 stage 2+ S3 and then an 11 plate MK6 GTI the other week.. ended up with the GTI and I'm very happy with my choice

Best of luck!
